On December 6, 1860, three men from Iowa Territory - John Dickey, James Fenton and William Larimer - arrived at anchor off the southeast corner of present-day Coralville and beganloading goods for establishment in what would be called Polk County. When they got ashore they were met by four other men from Iowa Territory who had come ashore to help load their boat: George Hennepin (now Minneapolis), Elijah Morse (now Holland), Nicholas Kirkpatrick (now Waterloo) and John Quigley (now Burlington). They all became property owners within weeks of their arrival here. In 1865 two more men - Wm Crain and Hiram Burt - came to town with a wagonload of bricks to build a courthouse which still stands today near junction of First Avenue North and South streets. One bricklayer working for Wm Crain stated that he saw his employer throw down his pickaxe after completing one job because he couldn't find another bricklayer willing to work for him; this led to an early rivalry between these two builders which continues until this day! In 1870 when Crawford County was created out of eastern Polk County some settlers started arriving here also including brother-in-law Jesse Price who settled south of where Price's father had done before him about three miles east of present day Coralville along what is now Delaware Road/Route 811A! In those days there were no roads or bridges so people traveled overland by wagons or horseback across various natural obstacles such as bluffs overlookingriver valleys etc., something which continues into modern times as one can see evidence everywhere along many rural routesides throughout central Iowa due largely to recent construction projects undertaken by local municipalities The first post office closed down on January 14th 1861 due registrar Tecumseh Washburn being transferred elsewhere; however mail continued being delivered through private carriers until 1865 when an agreement was made with Eastern Union Company whereby mail delivery ceased altogether! Due to this cutoff service local residents developed a custom of carrying messages directly between homes without stopping at any formal buildings until1872 when steamboats began delivering mail both ways between Cedar Rapids and Des Moines! The reefs were a source of fresh water for the town and also served as a dumping ground for local trash. Coralville originally consisted of five small villages: Coralville, Bellefontaine, Gadsden, Hardesty, and Fort Dodge. In 1886, Coralville became an incorporated town with a population of 100 residents. The community experienced growth during the first half of the 20th century and reached its peak in 1951 when it had a population of 1,500 residents. During the late 20th century and into the 21st century, developments in adjacent towns such as Cedar Rapids led to increased competition for residency in Coralville and its shrinking resources caused it to decline over time. Today, only a few hundred residents remain in Coralville while other nearby communities have emerged as larger cultural hubs with similar populations.
