Clive, Iowa is an unincorporated community in Plymouth County, Iowa, United States. It was originally called Postville and consolidation of the two communities took place on February 17, 1907. The post office was moved to Clive from Postville on May 1, 1908. Clive had a population of 409 in 2000. The first settler in Clive was David Lowry who arrived in 1879. He built a cabin on the west side of town. There were several other pioneers in Clive before World War I when it became a ghost town because of the lack ofPopulation to sustain life without agriculture or industry. The first school was held at the nearby Hennepin Schoolhouse which closed in 1918 due to lack of students and money for repairs. A new school was built at 7th and Walnut Streets and open fall 1919 after fundraising by local residents including Dr. John Daugherty who served as Superintendent from 1915-1918 Clive's economy changed with the discovery of oil near Fort Worth, Texas during World War II which led to increased production for local farmers that resulted in an increase in population from 427 to 621 during the 1945-1996 period when oil prices averaged $3 per barrel In 1990, Clive Elementary School opened its doors to students aged 7-12 years old after being vacant since 1988 when it burned down due to arson In 2003, Clive had its own library system thanks to a grant from the state government On July 16th 2006 Clive made history by becoming part of Iowa's First Congressional District once it became clear that Tom Lantos would not be running for re-election In 2008 Clarendon High School Male Athlete won IOWA STATE TITLE IN HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS

Cooksey and its first councilmember were Wm Gossage and A.F.Hutchinson
