Clive is a small town located in Polk County, Iowa, United States. The population was 576 at the 2010 census. The Clive Volunteer Fire Department operates two stations: Station 1, which serves the town and its surrounds; and Station 2, which is located east of Clive on State Highway 60. The first gun target shooting club in Clive was established in 1892 by three men from neighboring Waterloo. It met annually at the home of one of the members, who would bring his rifle to shoot targets at a nearby farm field. From 1893 to 1903, these meetings were held at the home of Hemanus Wiegandt. In 1907, a new meeting hall was built and became known as “The Gulliver’s Hut” for its resemblance to an English gentleman’s library. This building served as the club’s main clubhouse until it was replaced by Station 1 in 1979. Clive has been host to many local and national events related to gun target shooting over the years including World Championships (1939), American Open (1974), National Championship (1984), NRA Annual Meetings (1991-1996), US Open (1997-2001), World Cup of Archery championships (2003-2007) and other international competitions such as Team USA Archery World Championships 2007 held here in Clive along with many other championship matches throughout America during that year
