Clive is a town in Jackson County, Iowa, United States. Clive was founded in 1855 and named after Cotton Mather Clive, an American statesman. The population was 2,681 at the 2010 census. The town of Clive lies on the edge of the Des Moines metropolitan area and straddles both its border with Iowa City and its municipal boundaries with West Des Moines. It is bordered to the east by Cedar Rapids, to the north by Urbandale, and to the west by Mason City. As of the 2010 census, it had a total population of 2,681 people. In 1857, when Iowa statehood was granted to America, Nathaniel Lyon land grant proved very useful as it included 640 acres (250 ha) of rural valley country lying between Cedar Rapids and Mount Pleasant on the southeast corner of what is now Clive Township and Iowan County. This would provide an excellent location for a new town site because access to water supplies from three streams - Puckamo Creek on one side; Beaver creek on the other; and Clearwater creek on the northeast - made possible easy development around what would become central Clive Square today. In addition to this main stream corridor providing many opportunities for irrigation agriculture could be developed successfully hereabouts which has led to much success in this business ever since including some current residents being natives or descendants of early settlers who lived here before or during major waves of settlement in this area beginning with Fenton's purchase in 1847 - cornerstone laid June 9th 1861 by Mr John Wickersham (a pioneer settler) whose great grandson still lives hereabouts & Improvement Plan drawn up that same year [see attached photograph] – original plat known as "Clive square" – lots numbered starting from 1st row from NE corner taken off plat map near building where post office now stands - first house built about 1870 & last about 1925 - second courthouse built 1886 [see attached photograph] which served until destroyed by fire in 1912 (& replaced later), also remains standing today within limits set for it by county commissioners prior to becoming part as school district boundary line

In 1930, the City of Clive merged with the neighboring village of Hiawatha to form the present-day city of Sioux City.
