Cavanaugh in 1892 and it has been used by the military and civilians ever since. The range is located off of US Highway 6 in rural Clinton. The first rifles to be fired at the Clinton Rifle Range were Model 1895s imported from Germany. In 1899, Captain Cavanaugh built a new rifle range that allowed for more than 25 rounds per minute shooting at 100 yards. This new range became one of the most popular in town and it still operates today! In 1911, Captain Cavanaugh donated his land to the town for use as a public rifle range.
