Cedar Rapids, Iowa is a town in Ia County, Iowa, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. Cedar Rapids is the 7th most populous city in Iowa. It is the county seat of Ia County and home to the Cedar Rapids Art Museum and other cultural attractions. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Cedar Rapids were French traders who came ashore on Lake Michigan in 1682. In 1795, Major General Anthony Wayne founded Cedar rapids Station on the Fox River as part of his Corps of Discovery Expedition. This was one of three stations established along the Missouri River by American commanders during the Revolutionary War-the others being Fort Dearborn in Illinois and Fort Leavenworth in Kansas City, Missouri. In 1837, Washington Irving settled at nearby Pella and began writing "The Gilded Age" there before moving back east to New York City two years later. A post office called Cedar Rapids was established at this location on March 25, 1837; it was renamed for John Davenport (1801–68), an early settler and mayor of Des Moines who helped lead that city's incorporation into Iowa Territory on November 3, 1839. Davenport also donated land for a courthouse and jail near present-day downtown Cedar Rapids. The railroad arrived here via Dubuque in 1855; it allowed Cherry Valley Farms to become one of America's largest agricultural towns with its famed 20 acres (8 hectares) home garden turned into a greenfield research center for corn growers all over Illinois and Midwest America during the 1940s through 1960s when they became nationally known as Monsanto Research & Development Center until their purchase by Dow Chemical Company in 2006). Prior to this time much local agriculture took place farther south along Interstate 80 which crossed into southern Iowa near Waterloo/Waterloo High School which still has some farm equipment dealership signage inside from those days

Cedar Rapids is a city in Iowa, United States. The population was 25,645 at the 2010 census. Cedar Rapids is the county seat of Cedar County. It is part of the Des Moines–West Des Moines Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to arrive in what is now Cedar Rapids were the Potawatomi who built their village on the current site of downtown in 1827. The town was named for Cederick (a small stream in Scotland), one of several places mentioned in treaties between Great Britain and France ceding large areas of North America to the United States in 1783-84. In 1838, James Wills founded Wapello Station on Big Sioux Creek and began trading with Native Americans living along that creek and its tributaries. In 1840, he partnered with David Wells Fargo to open a banking business in Cedar Rapids which became one of the largest banks west of St Louis. The two men also founded the First National Bank which remains headquartered there today as Wells Fargo & Co.. In 1881, they donated land to build what would become City Hall Square on Second Street between Blakely Boulevard and Main Avenue; this dedication marked both their contributions to downtown Cedar Rapids and their partnership with City Hall Architects John Luthy and George Haggerty – together forming what is now known as Luthy + Haggerty Architecture Firm LLC., which still practices law there today. In 1911, Mayor Levi Strauss came up with a plan for developing downtown into an entertainment district called "The Strand." Straus's dream involved creating a pedestrian mall connecting Third Avenue eastward with Grandview Avenue southward through Ice Arena Plazaesan before terminating at riverfront property north of Center Street near Busch Gardens Lake Michigan. After years of planning and discussion, work commenced on Strand Drive across from City Hall Square in 1914; but due to World War I theater closures it never opened until after hostilities had ended. In 1932, when Interstate 235 was constructed concurrent with unified Des Moines County, Cedar Rapids became its terminus; however, truck traffic continued flowing into town until 1953 when US 1 bypassed it all together south toIowa City making I-235 unnecessary within Cedar Rams
Cedar Rapids was founded in 1847 by a group of Iowa farmers who had come to the area looking for new land. The city was named after Cedar Point, a trading post and fort on the Minnesota River. The first settlers were men from Pennsylvania and Maryland, but soon enough other groups arrived, including Scandinavian immigrants. By the early 1850s, Cedar Rapids had become one of the most important cities in Iowa. It became an agricultural center and also attracted people from around the Midwest to its businesses and schools. In 1870, Cedar Rapids became a city and began to rapidly grow into what it is today.
