This location still stands today as one of Irene’s most iconic properties – once home to both Iowan Brewing Company (later known as Des Moines Brewery) and local gunsmiths Andrew Fenton & Sons while they were finishing up construction of what would become City Hall site; later sold to Cedar Rapids Utilities when city hall was completed). In 1914 Armour powder company merged into Iowan Powder Works which became part of Brownell & Co., Incorporated (Bendix Corp.) After World War II many companies left Iowan Armory but continue making rounds under various brand names until it closed down in 1984 along with all other ammunition plants statewide due to competition from Marlin Firearms Corporation who bought all assets including Brownell &Co., Incorporated Brownells continued making rounds until 1994 when it too closed down due to new market trends

In 1905, when primary agricultural production shifted from raising corn into cattleraising operation, Cedar Rapids developed into a major beef center with slaughterhouses located along North Main Street near present day Interstate 80 and Elm Avenue South near present day First Baptist Church (originally called Zion). This intensive industry led to increased traffic congestion on North Main Street which resulted in many businesses closing their doors during rush hours or going out of business altogether because they could not compete with these large meatpacking plants operated by Perdue Packers & Co., Hormel Foods Inc., Armour Meat Packers Inc., Swift Food Stores Inc., Dean Waltham Corporation et al.. In response to this pressure local citizens voted on May 15th of that year for a $5 per week tax on retail sales of all items sold above $50 irrespective of source including groceries within 500 feet of any store whether public or private! This made it possible for these larger companies to open smaller stores outside Cherry Creek village limits without having their customers drive half-way across town just to get their hands on what they wanted! Revolutionizing retailing had begun!
