He also developed additional courses that would later lead to certification levels such as AO (American Optometric Association) and OA (Optometrist Association). In 1915, Cedar Falls became home to world's first accredited optometry school when Dr. Edward Condon opened Iowa State College of Optometry adjacent to his old academy building. The name Cedar Falls comes from a sandstone outcrop on which the town was founded. In 1850, Cedar Falls had a population of 582 people and by 1860 it had grown to 965 people. At its peak in 1870, the town had an estimated population of 2,545 people. By 1900, though it still had a small population size compared to other cities around it (the median population for towns with over 10,000 residents at that time was over 30), Cedar Falls had become an important transportation hub for rural Iowans travelling south to Des Moines or east to Ottumwa or West Des Moines for agricultural production or services such as banking or trading opportunities; It also became known for its extensive sawmills which produced lumber for local homes and roads nearby until about 1930s when wood prices dropped dramatically making them unprofitable; The decline in sawmilling activity during World War II led to some reductions in workforce but also contributed to overall economic diversification within the community; Today much attention remains given not just to downtown Fern Gardens – once home primarily to retail operations – but also various heritage properties including residences dating back centuries along South Main Street (the original main street) as well as smaller nooks and crannies throughout downtown straddling two rivers which make up most of its boundaries; These streets have been designated “ pedestrian-friendly streets” meaning that vehicular traffic may only be allowed when necessary while pedestrians are present at all times either walking or running through these areas without having their path disrupted

By 1920 Cedar Falls hadgrown to an estimated population of 4,500 people[3]. During World War II (1939-1945), Cedar Falls played an important role as one of three military training centers used by United States forces during the war. Because Of this importance, many local businesses were donated or leased to United States Military Forces commanderies which housed various units including artillery batteries, tanks and aircraft factories.[4] After World War II ended, many jobs left Cedar Fallsand most residents decided not to move away from their homes following the economic recession that hit midwestern America inthe early 1990s. However, over time some families have returned home while others have chosen to live elsewhere in centralIowa due to different opportunities available there.
