Boone is a town in Polk County, Iowa, United States. The population was 1,844 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Sioux City–Davenport, IA-MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. Boone was laid out by John Boone in 1854 and named for him. The first post office in Boone opened in 1858. The town was consolidated with Davenport in 1907 and became part of the Wichita Falls metropolitan area; however, it retains its own government and school board. The first settler in Boone was John Crouch who arrived there on July 4, 1854. He built a log cabin on the present site of downtown Boone and called it "Crouch's Cabin." A store and hotel were also founded early in Boone's history. In 1857, Luther King came to Boone to preach at an agricultural meeting held at Drury's Storehouse on Main Street. King had come from Illinois and been accompanied by his wife Anna Muhlenberg King (née Powell). After preaching for two hours, he took leave of the group to go back home; but before he left they constructed a small cabin near where he preached for dinner that night. That same year, they erected a pole barn on what is now US Highway 10 east of town. In 1880s and 1890s many farmers moved into central Iowa to found towns such as Drake or Wapello due to new land grants available through Indian removal laws passed during the American Civil War era This led to increased trade between central Iowa counties and eastern Nebraska which directly influenced economic development throughout south-central Iowa over time
Boone was founded in 1847 by Nicholas Boone, a fur trader. The town began to grow rapidly after the discovery of gold in nearby Iowa Territory in 1851. By 1865, Boone had become an important center for the agricultural and mining industries. In the 1960s, Boone was home to one of the largest aluminum smelters in the Midwest.
