The first settlers in Boone were farmers who arrived in 1871. They built a log cabin on the present-day Roosevelt Road. In 1875, they founded the town of Boone on land that had been given to them by a grant from the United States government. The town was named for Colonel James Giddings Boone, an American soldier and explorer who explored much of Minnesota and Oklahoma before his death in 1877. The first store was opened in Boone on December 7, 1876 by Wm. Fenton and His Wife Martha Eells with 9 barrels of flour and 12 sacks of groceries bought at Amesbury Landing opposite Fort Dodge. A post office was established at Boone on February 14, 1880 by Jno Smeaton with one letter P and two numbers; it served until November 29, 1888 when it changed to BOONE after becoming part of Sioux City On July 5, 1886 Cherokee Nation Indian Chief Black Hawk led an attack against white settlers near present-day North High School which resulted in five people being killed., resulting in outrage among many Americans who felt that such violence should not be allowed anywhere near their towns or cities In 1903 Burlington Industries built a factory south of town which began production of radios, phonographs and other electronics products In World War II US servicemen living inBoone helped build airfields and defenses around Sioux City including Clearwater Air Force Base as well as buildings essential to Operation Overlord including Headquarters USAAF/ Fifth Air Force Camp

Boone, Iowa is a city in south-central Iowa, United States. The population was 5,814 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Boone County and is part of the Des Moines metropolitan area. A post office called Boone was established in 1849, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1971. The city was named for General James A. Boone, an officer in the Union Army during the American Civil War who commanded a brigade at Vicksburg. Boone has been a center for agriculture since before European settlement there began. In 1854, Wm Fenton opened what became known as Fenton's Creamery on Delaware Street which became one of the most important creameries in America. The townspeople raised cheddar cheese and other milk products from their cows and hogs until 1907 when they switched to processed cheese products made by Kraft Foods Inc.. In 1976, Monsanto bought controlling interest in Fenton's company and renamed it Monsanto/Fenton Cheese USA Inc.. Today Monsanto still makes cheese here but also manufactures other items such as cornflakes, ice cream cones etc., including food Grade B milk that is distributed throughout central Iowa to various retail outlets across the state... In addition to its dairy repertoire (manufacturing only high quality raw milk), Boone currently operates two grain elevators which provide local farmers with both storage space and fresh ground feed for their animals
