The pistol was very popular among frontier farmers and ranchers because it could be fired rapidly without having to reload. By 1857, John C. Frisbee had produced over 100 pistols in Boone alone! His pistols were well-known throughout the Midwest and Canada until they were replaced by new designs in 1865 by George Stephenson & Company who manufactured revolvers under their name today (George Stephenson Firearms). In 1871, Samuel Colt began manufacturing arms in town after acquiring ownership of Frisbee's patents for developing what is now known as firearms manufacturing technology - this led to mass production for both marketing reasons as well as military requirements during World War II (see Samuel Colt Firearms).
