Ankeny is a town in Iowa, United States. The population was 6,711 at the 2010 census. The name of the town comes from Ankeny Creek which flows through it. The first people to live in what is now Ankeny were the Oglala Sioux and their allies who settled there in 1845. A post office was established here in 1848, and by 1860, the town had a population of 350. It grew rapidly during the late 1800s and early 1900s due to agricultural production and growth in railroads that transported goods to market. During World War II, many residents served in the military; one such resident was General George Custer who lived near Ankeny for several years before his death at Little Bighorn Battlefield on July 20th, 1889. In 1964, construction began on Interstate 30 which passed through Ankeny and became an important highway connecting Des Moines with Chicago. This helped increase businesses and jobs within the town as well as bringing new residents and businesses intotown; today, most of those businesses are located along I-30 or within easy walking distance of each other.

However during World War II there arose new problems with optics due mainlyto changes in warfare doctrine resulting from advances made through advances made within Nazi Germany's military research department(Oberndorffswehr) led by Dr Hermann Weisheit(laterbecomeknown asWeiser). Weiser's work allowed Nazi scientists unprecedented insight into how light behaves inside objects making it possible for them create very accurate artillery munitions therefore giving Hitler an advantage against Allied forces at war’s end.(Petersen) During World War II N&NI produced three types of telescopic sight devices; open grade (HOGG), closed grade(WAGM), and intermediate grade(IGF). The Intermediate GradeMount usually had better optics but less adjustments latitude then other grades owing its location between Open/Closed Objective Lens Devices.(Petersen) During World War II N&NI also produced dummy rifles incorporating all three types of sight devices however these guns only served as test models not used operationally on any battlefields

However, recent economic boom times have seen renewed interest in industry and development within the community; including new businesses such as Apple Inc.'s headquarters building that opened in 2007 and several large housing developments such as Pinnacle Hills Village complex that are now home to many high-end retailers such as Sears Holdings Stores Inc., Macy's Inc., JCPenney Co., Kroger Co., FedEx Ground & Air cargo company UPS (United Parcel Service), Wegmans Food Markets Inc., Sam's Club Corporation, etc.; along with new public works projects such as the renovation of local churches dating back to 1990 which are now used for meetings or events purposes only
