In Altoona, Iowa, the history ofguns and target practice is long and varied. The city was founded in 1871 by a group of settlers who arrived in what is now Altoona from Illinois. The town grew quickly, and soon there were two gun ranges within walking distance of each other. In the late 1800s, the city started to become known for its shooting competitions, which are still held every year. In addition to these competitions, target practice was also popular during this time. Many people in Altoona would go to local ranges to shoot at targets. Target practice could also be found at various park locations throughout the city. Throughout all of these activities, guns and targets were always a part of the mix.

The first gun target in Altoona, Iowa was a blacksmith shop on the corner of Third and Independence Streets. This shop was built in 1857 and is now used as a museum. The next target was an ammunition store at 5 S 3rd Street in 1868. In 1879, there were two rifle ranges open to the public in Altoona. One range was located at Fourth and Elm streets, while the other range was located at Seventh and Cedar Streets. An armory opened in Altoona in 1886 and became home to many different types of guns including revolvers, pistols, shotguns, rifles, and machineguns. In 1899-1905, two more rifle ranges were opened; one located at Seventh and Meridian Streets (now defunct) while the other range was located at Fourth and Elm streets (still extant). In 1916-1920 there were three more rifle ranges open to the public; one location at Eighth Avenue and Meridian Street(now defunct), another location at Sixth Avenue and Delaware Street(now defunct), while the last range opened at First Avenue & Delaware Street(currently active). In 1921-1924 there were only three rifle ranges open to the public; one location at Second Avenue & Delaware Street(now inactive), another location at Fourth Avenue & DelawareStreet(now inactive), while the last range opened on First Avenue & DelawareStreet.(currently active). In 1925-1929 there were six rifle ranges open to the public; one locationsAt Fifth Avenues& Mississippi Streets(& now inactive), another locationsAt Seventh Avenues& Illinois Streets(& now inactive), Third Place & Michigan Ave., Sixth avenue& Illinois street(& now inactive),whilethe last Range Opened At Eighth avenue& Meridian street.(currently active).
Altoona, Iowa is a small city in the west-central part of the United States. The population was 7,021 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Butler County. Altoona is located on the Allegheny Plateau and has a humid continental climate (Köppen: Dfb). According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Altoona has a warm-summer Mediterranean climate, abbreviated "Csa" on climate maps. Apostles Methodist Church was founded in 1851 by John Wesley and his followers as an experiment in Christianity among frontier people in what is now West Virginia. In 1857, Methodists from Lancaster County moved to Altoona after being converted there by Rev. John Aiken. In 1865, Presbyterian ministers from nearby Clearfield began preaching in Southeastern Pennsylvania and came to Altoona with their families to preach God's love and healing power to pioneer farmers and others near this new settlement. Altoona became an important railroad town due to its location between Pittsburgh and Philadelphia on three key railroads –the Erie Canal System, the Pennsylvania Railroad Company (PRR), and the Keystone Route – which facilitated easy freight transportation between these cities as well as commerce throughout much of central Pennsylvania during its early years. The city also developed into an important manufacturing center for textiles such as clothing, shoes, agricultural products, plastics and consumer electronics; aluminum manufacturers; shipbuilders; papermakers; printing plants; meatpacking processors;and other businesses over time. The downtown area experienced significant redevelopment following a tornado that struck town on November 25th 1985 which destroyed most of what remained of downtown Angelo Park without causing any injuries or fatalities The citywide economic revival continued through the 1990s with many new businesses opening up including restaurants, bars/nightlife venues such as Hooters and Buffalo Bill's Bar & Grill - both owned by local businessmen who had invested in land adjacent to downtown - retail stores such as Lowe's Hardware store (now Home Depot), JCPenney department store (now Macy’s), Aldi Market grocery store (now Kroger) - which opened up along Highway 30 east of downtown before moving southward across I-70 towards State College proper in 2002 - major employers like Alcoa Aluminum Manufacturing Co., American Electric Power Generation & Transmission Co., Citizens Gas Corporation (later known as PennGas) - all of whom continue today employs over 20% of total workforce within reachable Downtown areas outside Corporate Headquarters buildings

Altoona is a town in Douglas County, Iowa, United States. The population was 2,938 at the 2010 census. Altoona is one of the few remaining towns in Douglas County from the days when it was a part of the Shawnee Nation. The first settler in Altoona was George Burt, who arrived in 1836. In 1858, John Hargrave founded an earthworks company here and developed what is now Altoona into a small city. The area that would become Altoona was long unincorporated until 1898, when it became a part of the city of Des Moines. In 1925, Des Moines annexed parts of Douglas and Buena Vista Counties to form its new city limits. However, on December 3, 1960, with the opening of Interstate 80 through central Iowa and suburban areas moving into municipalities (including Altoona), Douglas County re-incorporated as Altoona Township. The current downtown core of Altoona dates back to 1907 when a group of local merchants formed an organization to build a new school district south of town center that would serve allof Douglas County - something which had never been done before. Work began on the school in 1907 and it opened for students in 1909; this original building still stands today as “The School Annex” within downtown! Over time more buildings were built including churches (the First Baptist Church being completed in 1912), community hall (completed in 1928), post office annex (completed 1939), fire station ( Completed 1945) and much more…. Today there are only 8 blocks left standing from when all these structures were erected! In recent years many businesses have moved out or closed due to diminishing customer base or competition from other larger towns throughout central Iowa but some notable tenants include Hospitality House which has been open since 1978 and continues to provide great food services for locals & visitors alike; Pawnbrokerage Centre which has been open since 1966 and provides same day pawning services for residents & tourists alike; etc….. It seems like every store closing leaves an empty storefronts but everytime somebody decides to do something about it we see another store opening up just like last time!
Altoona was founded by the John C. Fremont Party on September 12, 1849, during the Gold Rush in California. The party of twenty-six men and two women sailed from Monterey Bay on a small sailing vessel called the "Fremont" to find new land for settlement. They discovered what is now Altoona about three months after landfall. The town was established at a place where the creek that flows through it now meets the Des Moines River.
