Zionsville is a town in Butler County, Indiana, United States. The population was 5,611 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis metropolitan area. Zionsville is home to the world's first law enforcement shooting school and has been called the "shooting capital of America." The town of Zionsville was founded in 1814 by James Wetherbee and others as a trading post on the same site that now houses I-465. In 1827, Ohioan Major General Anthony Wayne founded what would become Butler County and named it after himself; Zionsville followed suit two years later. The towns of NorthwestIndianapolis (now South Bend) and Easton were added to Butler County in 1845. In 1853, Zionsville became home to the world's first law enforcement shooting school when Assistant Sheriff George Snively opened Snively's Shooting School & Academy. Snively taught his students how to shoot using only handguns for target practice and advised them on safe handling techniques for firearms. The first settler in what would become Zionsville was David Hartsfield, who built a cabin on an isolated rise overlooking the confluence of the White and Black Rivers in 1814. In 1821, John Risdon began farming here and named his farm for Zion's Cave (now known as White River State Park). George Wacker founded a mill in 1829 and named it for ZION ( pronounced "zi-o-nuh"). A post office called ZIONVILLE was established in 1836. The community most likely grew out of a group of people who gathered around Wacker to offer their services as merchants or builders during this time period; some became farmers and others invested money in business ventures. In 1840, William Fenton erected the first school building here; he also donated land to make it possible for a Methodist Church to be built on that same site. On October 15, 1840–the day after Fort Wayne was made an independent city–ZIONVILLE had its first election as a town with one vote against each voter registered in all five wards within the newly formed city limits: First Ward (northwest corner of present day Main Street & White River Road), Second Ward (southwest corner of present day Hickory Street & NW Fourth Avenue), Third Ward (east side of present day Pennsylvania Avenue & Harrison Street), Fourth Ward (southwest corner of present day Glennie Place & Maryland Avenue), and FifthWard ( northeast corner of present day Ithaca Boulevard & Main Street). In 1850, voters approved incorporation into the new City Of Fort Wayne; from then until 1861 when it merged with Indianapolis – both cities were located inside today's boundaries – ZIONSVILLE lay largely within District 2 comprising portions now part of West Bend Township, Porter Township and East Peoria Township. On November 3rd 1830 David Hartsfield sold 640 acres near where his cabin now stands to Abraham Lincoln for $10 per acre ($1 million today). This cleared land became what is now Old High School property along US 65/I-465 which soon housed warehouses used by local mills until they closed down around 1990s due to pollutants released by nearby factoriesPNR

By 1876 all armies were using breechloading rifle rounds which made them more dangerous than muzzle loading rifles because they could travel further before exploding inside the target and causing damage or death
