Zionsville is a small town in the state of Indiana, United States. The population was 2,858 at the 2010 census. It lies in the northwestern corner of the state on Lake Michigan and is bordered by LaPorte to the east, Pekin to the northwest, and Danville to the north. On October 16, 1819, Federalist Party candidate Elijah Woods won an election for township trustee which marked the beginning of heavy development around Otto Creek on what is now northeast side of downtown Indianapolis; this area includes much developed today including parts that make up central Indy (northwest side). In 1830s Isaac Morse built a gristmill here which became one of first commercial mills in Indiana; it continued operation until 1954 when it closed due to competition from more modern mills elsewhere across America. Morse was posthumously awarded both a Congressional Medal Of Honor (1946) and a National Medal Of Science (1970).
