It continued to grow throughout the 19th century until it reached its peak during World War II when it had over 20,000 residents. After the war, Zionsville declined as a commercial center but has experienced recent growth as an agricultural community due to its proximity to neighboring farms and grain elevators
Zionsville is a small town in Hancock County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,512 at the 2010 census. The original Zionsville post office was established in 1837. It ceased operations in 1922. It is located on the National Road (U.S.) 421 corridor which runs between Chicago and Indianapolis. Zionsville is one of the few U.S.'s with a streetcar system serving it as well as buses to various destinations within Hancock County and out into the surrounding counties of Indiana. The community was founded by Levi Coffin and his family in 1837 on land purchased from David Whitfield for $4 per acre ($126 total). The first post office was established in 1838 and named after Coffin’s hometown of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (now Allentown, PA). In 1850, Zionsville had only six residents; however by 1860 it had increased to over 100 due to growth along the road corridor and new arrivals from Illinois, Kentucky and other parts of eastern USA who were attracted by the fertile soil and cheap labor available hereabouts during that time period. In 1922, when Hancock County became an independent state, Zionsville's ZIP code was 67464 which remain unchanged to this day despite changes within Indiana itself over time including re-districting of its boundaries following the 2000 census results which resulted in most of rural Hancock County becoming part of downtown Indianapolis while smaller portions went eastward into Warren Township (the now part of Clearwater) and westward into Hendricks Townships (the now part of Richmond Heights). As such Zionsville lost its post office designation but still retains its name as a residential community with a mix both single/multiple family dwellings as well as apartments/condos for multiple families/individuals living together or commuting to larger communities nearby like downtown Indianapolis or Elkhart Lake respectively. Today there are also several shopping malls located just outside town limits with additional offices above those stores providing services such as health carerx., walmart., Target., etc... primarily used today for visiting friends or relatives who live elsewhere within larger metropolitan areas like Indianapolis or Chicago though some businesses have closed down completely leaving behind abandoned storefronts throughout town offering up an interesting view should you chance upon them while exploring older neighborhoods these days!

Zionsville is a small town in Hendricks County, Indiana, United States. The population was 2,786 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Terre Haute-Normal School District. The first post office in Zionsville was established in 1853. In 1907, the name of the town was changed to Zion after an organization called "The Zion Society for advancement of education" donated land to build a high school and a college there. The college closed in 1961 and the school district merged with neighboring Terre Haute-Normal in 2000; Zionsville became part of that district's new campus. Zionville began as a trading post on the Tippecanoe River by David Logan and others in 1840. It grew rapidly as a result of its location on the main route between Chicago and Indianapolis. A sawmill and grist mill were built here early on, while other businesses soon followed—a grocery store, post office, hotel (later known as Fairmount), cinema (later known as The Regal), garage, cotton gin and several other factories before World War II when Zionsville took on an importance not found elsewhere in central Indiana because it served as both military base for General George Patton's Third Army during World War II and home to many industry leaders from local to national stature during that time including Cement King Jepson (1932-1988) who developed one of India's largest cement plants there until it closed down due to pollution control regulations brought about by President Franklin D Roosevelt’s New Deal program; auto manufacturer Henry Ford’s Plant I; electrician Eli Lilly & Co.'s plant No. 9; Standard Oil Company's plant No. 527; Wabash Paper Corporation plant No.; Beecham Pharmaceutical Corporation plant No.; Boeing Aircraft Corporation plant No.; First National Bank building (now used as apartments); Ulysses S Grant Presidential Library & Museum complex which includes hisWhite House Council Chambers housed within his private home near what is now Old National Road downtown ."
