Zionsville is a town in Hendricks County, Indiana, United States. The population was 3,491 at the 2010 census. Zionsville is part of the Terre Haute Metropolitan Statistical Area. It was founded by Myron and Anna Holcomb in 1824 as a trading post on the newly formed Shawnee River Indian Reservation. The settlement grew rapidly due to its location on the main route between Chicago and St. Louis, Missouri. A post office was established in 1827 and by 1830 it had 12 residents. In 1836, Zionsville became a village when all of Hendricks County were divided into villages by Act of Congress. In 1907, Holcomb donated land to create an agricultural college which became Purdue University; Zionsville remained its largest community until that institution relocated to Indianapolis in 1920. Pietro Perrone's Italian restaurant served as the first business establishment in Zionsville after it opened its doors on October 1, 1907; perrone is also known for his contributions to the development of both local hospitals and Purdue University's football stadium (Purdue Stadium). After World War II saw an increase in military stationed in Hendricks County during the Cold War era – including many aircraft manufacturers – Zionsville experienced rapid growth as servicemen and women brought their families home from service every day. The Holcomb family sold land near downtown Zionsville for commercial use beginning around 1950; this area now includes much of what is now known as Old Town Township Square shopping center and several large businesses located there today such as Vail Cascade ski resort (now owned by Anheuser-Busch InBev) and US Steel Corporation's former regional arm called The Workshops which closed its doors in 1999 but remains vacant since then with plans to redevelop it into housing units instead The town has seen other significant changes over time too: starting in the early 1990s voters approved passage of a charter amendment giving city status to what had been a rural township; this allowed for more professional services like law enforcement and zoning changes that have helped make 2001 one of the most thriving years ever for local businesses ZIONSVILLE CIVIL LIBERTIES PROTEST "HOLCOMB FAMILY MEMORIAL PARK" AT THE HOLDING OF THE CITY CLERK On February 10th 2017 about 20 citizens from various organizations gathered outside City Hall against what they believe is an attempt by Mayor Burge to change zoning rules that would allowholcomb family memorial park – an existing private property adjacent to city limits - fronting onto Main Street without proper permits or approvals from city leaders

Zionsville, Indiana is a small town located in the southern part of the U.S. state of Indiana. The population was 3,859 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what would become Zionsville was James Reavis, who arrived in 1786. He and his family built a log cabin on the site of their current home in 1787-1788. In 1802, Isaac Morrill founded what is today Zionsville after purchasing land from Reavis and others. Morrill named his new settlement for George Washington because he thought it sounded like " Zion." Zionsville grew slowly until its incorporation as a village in 1836 made it one of Hoosier's major cities by adding to its total area (excluding Evansburg). During World War II, General Dwight D Eisenhower called upon Zionsville to help house soldiers and civilians on military installations around the state while they were awaiting mobilization centers or other housing available statewide. After V-E Day, many soldiers and their families returned to live here; however, some chose instead to stay with their unit or garrison at Camp Randall in Madison County until relieved by Army troops at Fort Monmouth on July 1, 1945. At that time Zionsville had a population of 521 residents including an unknown number of military personnel It didn't take long for things to settle down again following the war; by 1948 there were only 97 residents living in temporal homes not connected with any businesses or services due to wartime relocations which left much empty space downtown . In 1949 there was another move when First United Methodist Church moved from Meridian Street into what is now Main Street and began serving as community center for all aspects of life including social services such as child care; this addition helped revive downtown along with new businesses which soon followed In 1951–1953 three blocks east along Main Street between Third Avenue and Fourth Avenue became residential streets known collectively as Old Town because most buildings there date back before that time (zinc plating being prevalent then). This area still contains several old shops including two grocery stores Knoppers & Company (now defunct) and Jepson’s Drug Store since both sites are still used primarily for deliveries rather than retail purposes today but have been preserved through estate sales over time

Zionsville is a small town in central Indiana, located on the east bank of the Ohio River. The original town was founded by necessity in 1816 as a result of the Mexican-American War. The town was named for Joseph Zions, an early settler and member of the United States Congress from Pennsylvania. Zionsville has since grown to become one of the most significant community in southern Indiana. The first settlement at Zionsville was near what is now downtown. A log cabin was built there in 1816 by John Armstrong and his family. It burned down in 1817, but despite this, Armstrong donated land to form the nucleus of what would become today's Zionsville. Zionville grew rapidly during its early years due to its location on strategic ground close to both military installations and trade routes. In 1824, George Stephenson offered to build a canal through Zionsville if it could be convinced that it would not be used for commerce but instead for military purposes only - an offer which successively been accepted by both local businesses and governments alike. In 1830, David Henderson acquired 640 acres (253 hectares) north of present-day Zionsville along with adjacent land south of present-day Uniontown for $1 per acre ($10 per hectare). This property became known as Henderson Park after him. The first post office at Zionsville opened on November 1, 1830; it continued operation until December 15, 1840 when it closed due to lack of mail delivery capacity within the small town limits at the time! In 1850, Prentice Plantation became part of newly formed Indianapolis County and was annexed into Indianapolis proper; however, Prentice remained part of ZionsVILLE until 1865 when he formally surrendered his lands to county officials pursuant to cartridge magazine regulations issued at that time! A millrace called "The Run" ran through much of downtown today before being diverted tributary creeks approximately 6 miles (10 kilometers) southward in present day Uniontown before joining up with the Ohio River just beyondpresent-day Terre Haute on its way downstream towards modern day Lafayette! Zionvillians were among those who helped build Washington Mill which began operations in 1840 near current day White City Junction! By 1850 there were about 375 people living in what is now downtown (including 100 farmers), including 30 families who owned more than 10 slaves! Agriculture continued play an important role throughout these years with many homespun mills operating within 500 feet (150 meters) OF a river or canal! One suchexample is White City Mills which operated from 1840-1860 upstream below Mill Creek just outside contemporary Lafayette!!! Today’s Pettit House Museum contains amazing artifacts dating backto this time period including looms & spindles used at White City Mills!!! There are also other interesting museums located throughout downtown area such as Wabash Railway Museum and Hanna Barbera Casino!! Additionally several restaurants have sprouted up over recent years attracting locals & visitors alike including Court House Coffeehouse & Grill – home base for numerous live music events each year!!Today's economy is driven largely by retail sales rather than agriculture however employment opportunities remain strong with many companies locating their regional headquarters hereabouts!!!! Today’s population totals around 1800 residents making it one of Southern Indiana’s fastest growing communities!!!!!!!!!!!!!
