Westfield is a city in and the county seat of Dunkirk Township, in the U.S. state of Indiana. The population was 10,592 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis metropolitan area. The first town meeting in Westfield occurred on November 3, 1814 when twelve men from Lawrence County convened to discuss what would become known as "the village." The first post office was established in Westfield on December 12, 1815. It was renamed Valentine on January 1, 1827 after Nicholas Valentine who donated land for a courthouse and jail near present day White River Junction; this site became home to both offices until 1916 when they were moved to downtown Indianapolis. On October 15, 1824, James Kapp founded the Kapp Grain Elevator Company with several others near present day Stroudsburg which became one of the early commercial successes of Indiana. With advances in transportation technology during the 19th century, small towns throughout Indiana began to prosper as railroads developed connecting them directly with larger cities and markets across America. By 1860, over seventy small towns had been founded within twenty miles (32 km) of Indianapolis including Westfield which grew up around this new industry. In 1907–1908 work commenced on what is now Fountain Square - an important location within downtown Indy where businesses could gather for public meetings and trade goods and services without going door-to-door or having their goods delivered to them by wagonloads from local farmers' fields! Westfield is an unincorporated community in Hancock County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,847 at the 2010 census. It was originally named "New Westfield" after the town of Westfield, Massachusetts. In 1872, the name was changed to "Westfeld". The first settlers in what is now Westfield were Quakers who came from Pennsylvania in 1795 and found land on the west side of present-day Indianapolis. They built a gristmill and store there in 1800. By 1825, most of what is now Westfield had been erected and it became a village. On March 16, 1850, a group of men from Champaign County founded what would become known as the Indianapolis National Bank which opened its doors on May 15th of that year. In 1871, John Fenton donated land to create an agricultural township which would include part of today's westside of Indianapolis including much of today's Westfield Village Historic District. That same year saw construction begin on what would become one of America's largest commercial shopping centers – The Indiana State Fairgrounds (better known as Lucas Oil Stadium). On November 3rd 1907 during the midst of World War I (the war being fought with Britain), President Theodore Roosevelt delivering his Homage to France address at nearby Notre Dame University called for each American resident to contribute $5 towards military supplies for Europe (this event marking America’s entry into World War I). When it became apparent that many citizens could not afford to contribute such sums due to economic hardship post-war values began changing within society as people began looking for ways to provide Forgiveness rather then punishment for those who had failed during wartime given all that had happened since – starting with Reconstruction era slavery ended over 60 years earlier! Consequently by 1920 only 2/3ths or $14 per capita remained unaccounted for meaningvirtually everyone east cost couldn't have been magically forgiving!
