Westfield, Indiana is a city in Dearborn County, Indiana. The population was 14,564 at the 2010 census. It is the county's second-largest city and the seat of Dearborn County government. The city is located on the right bank of the White River and has a metropolitan area size of 19 million people as measured by population growth since 2000. Westfield is part of the Chicago–Naperville–Rockford MSA. The first Europeans to visit what is now Westfield were French fur traders in 1675 who named it after their trading post on Wabash River near present-day Terre Haute, Indiana. A year later, English explorer John Custer passed through this area on his way from St. Louis to Fort Wayne and named it for General Anthony Wayne's cavalry unit which he had destroyed at Battle Creek that year. In 1814, General James Kapp organized a group of volunteers to drive off Native Americans from this area known as "The Red Vermonters". This new community was called Kapptown after its founder. In 1836, while surveys were being made for an express road between Indianapolis and Chicago overland via Fort Dearborn and Detroit Lakes, George Stephenson founded Westfield Township in what are today Whiteland Township and Glen Ellyn Township south of I-480 at milepost 24 (nowOswego Road). He laid out streets that would lead northwest from downtown Indianapolis towards Sycamore Street in west suburban Elkhart Township before turning southwest along current Conklin Boulevard into present-day East Side Village neighborhoods including Evanston Heights and Lincoln Woods north of I-90/I-465 before reaching Illinois Route 36 east of town limits near modern day North side Drive in Elkhart Township proper just beyond today's US open space land east of I-290 exit 20 (South Side Drive) within boundaries then established by surveyor David Whitney when he surveyed township line running due south from Lake Michigan shoreline following natural cedar swamps inland about one thirdmile wide around all core village areas situated therein with intervening open swampy land lying eastward nearly to Quad Cities Harbor then southeast along rural bluffs overlooking Big Rapids Reservoir thence generally southeast across reservation lines thereto joining with townships west thereof having formed same political organization as said villages aforesaid composing said township until 1791 when act creating Lower Townships & Clairton ville discharges lots within said precincts without sale or exchange thereby terminating forever any connection heretofore existing among these parts forming part one body politic & municipal subject thereto united under one roof & soClarence Dumas

Westfield is a town in Davenport Township, Michigan, United States. The population was 1,566 at the 2010 census. It was laid out in 1824 by John Westfield and community founders Isaac and Martha White. The name of the original townsite is unknown but it likely refers to a location west of the Ottawa River on what is now State Road 23. In 1827, the new village of Westfield (now part of East Lansing) was organized around this site. In 1828, an act of the Michigan Legislature designated land east of State Road 23 as part of the Town of Westfield. The first white settler in what would become Westfield was Abram French in 1829. French built a cabin on Licking Creek near present-day North Street and First Avenue; his son Amos purchased additional land from French in 1832 and began farming there also. By 1840, religious denominations had been established in both villages so Congregationalists founded a chapel here in 1840 called First Presbyterian Church (later moved to Lansing). In 1850, John Fenton bought some land north of present-day Third Street for $700 which he used for road construction; he named this lot "Fenton's Field" or "The Meadows". Fenton donated this property to the Village Trustees for use as their cemetery including sections that are still lying today such as section line 10th & 12th Streets NE. On July 8, 1865, during American Civil War Battle at Wilson's Mill Creek between Union forces under General Winfield Scott and Confederate General Robert Ewell Jr., most residents fled into surrounding woods when Union artillery opened up on them from atop a hill just beyond town limits; after several hours infantrymen relieved them and burned all their dwellings except one which continued to function as a neutral blockhouse until 1922 when it became part of East Lansing Museum collections (now known as "The Old Soldiers' Home" inside University District). A committee chaired by Mayor George Barrett submitted plans for developing this valuable woodlands area into commerce with mills potential tenants being farmers who were already living near cornfields or lumbering operations acrossriver; these plans were accepted by city council on November 3rd1868 with Garrett Wofford serving as chairperson On December 16th 1870 trustees voted unanimously to change the name from "Westfeldt" to "Westfield". This change took effect February 1st1871 when township platting began with boundaries defined by creek crossings rather than hillslopes like those that would later be included within town limits In 1880 Jacob Kapp built Kapp's Creamery here followed by Jno Barents hotel soon afterwards becoming one of several important businesses located within walking distance or short bus ride from homes . As production increased prices for goods decreased resulting in large profits for company owners . After Prohibition ended many local businessowners lost opportunity because tax laws changed making it difficult/impossible to repatriate criminal gains while still operating ; economic conditions have since improved somewhat once more especially given recent investment opportunities Since World War II significant growth has occurred with various companies locating here such as Macy’s Department Store came online 1975 followed by Sears Roebuck & Co.'s opening in 1984 creating over 100 jobs each create ensuing downtown retail district ; auto dealership opened 1976 followed by Ford Motor Company expanding its Dearborn Assembly Plant HERE Today major employers include Indiana Bell Telephone Company headquartered downtown with over 20,000 employees plus other smaller companies ; SouthwesternIndiana Credit Union has 15 branches throughout western Indiana providing banking services through VERIFIED memberships As previously mentioned 'the old soldiers' home' now forms part ofEast Lansing Museum Collections inside University District housed inside brick building originally constructed 1902-1904
