Westfield, Indiana is a city in and the county seat of Westfield Township, Butler County, Indiana. The population was 46,851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis metropolitan area. The town was laid out by Nathan Bedford Forrest in 1839 as a plantation on what is now known as Forrest Park Boulevard near present day Westfield Elementary School. The first post office in Westfield opened in 1840. In 1845, the community became part of Butler County when it was split off from Posey County. In 1880, local farmers constituted the "First Indian Removal Company" and started to move Native Americans from their traditional land around present-day Fort Wayne to what is now Prairie View A&M University and other locations within Butler County without consulting with or consent from the natives. This act led to much violence and bloodshed among the Native American groups involved in this process including many massacres that took place over several years until 1885 when all Native Americans were finally removed to Oklahoma. In 1925, while still a part of Posey County, WestFIELD incorporated as an independent village under its own government with a Mayor/Council form of government which remains operative today within Butler Community Schools District #1 through district #4 which also includes portions of Arlington Heights (west side), Northville (south side), Mishawaka (east side) and Carmel (north side). On November 3rd 1865 during rush hour on I-70 heading eastbound on exit 23B for Indianapolis proper there was an accident involving two locomotives resulting in one fatalities & eight injuries; both engines were being used for traffic control at that time!

Westfield, Indiana (population: 98,748) is a town in U.S. state of Indiana. The population was 102,853 as of the 2010 census. Westfield is the largest city in and the county seat of Wayne County. It is located on the right bank of the Wabash River, about 20 miles west of Indianapolis and 30 miles east of Chicago. The early settlers were farmers who came from England in the 18th century. They renamed their settlement "Westfield" after an English village on his estate in that time. In 1813, General James Wilkinson established Fort Dearborn at what is now Westfield to protect traders traveling between this area and Missouri City on the river below. In 1814, he abandoned Fort Dearborn and built a new fort at what is now Lafayette Square to serve as both military headquarters for Indian campaigns against Mexico during President Andrew Jackson's Mexican War administration and also as a trading post for fur traders travelling along the Wabash River valley interior route from Illinois to Kentucky/Ohio via Indianapolis and Chicago. For more than 25 years it served as an important center for trade with both Native Americans and Mexicans across much of central Indiana; by 1840 its mission had been accomplished within 10 miles (16 km) of Indianapolis by erecting four wooden fences around it to keep out intruders or diseases introduced by these travelers The first permanent settler in what would become Westfield was Gideon Green in 1795-97 when he homesteaded near current day East Washington Street/Upper Delaware Avenue The first school was opened in 1798 by Reverend George Whitehead along present day Elm Street/Thornhill Road A gristmill was built here around 1800 by John Hargrave It became known as "Hargrave Mill" until becoming part of United States flour milling industry around 1830s when it became part of Emerson Flour Company During American Revolutionary War (1775-83), Village Green was a strategic location providing defense against British forces advancing downriver through Wayne County while Ft Dearborn defendedIndian Territory upstream
