Gun sights have been a part of American history for over 100 years. In 1868, the first gun sights were created in Westfield, Indiana by Captain John A. Armstrong and his team of engineers. Captain Armstrong was tasked with designing and manufacturing the first firearms sights for use on horseback. In 1857, Westfield became the first city in Indiana to ratify the 15th amendment to the United States Constitution. The amendment ratified in 1868 granted voting rights to African Americans. In 1896, a new courthouse was built on East Washington Street and was dedicated by President Grover Cleveland. In 1911, an annex was added to the south side of downtown Westfield for the Westfield Chamber of Commerce. On July 1, 1927, Indiana's statehood was celebrated with a parade through town streets that included floats carrying Westfield flag and banners reading "Indiana! Indiana!"
Westfield, Indiana is a small town located in central Indiana. The population was 2,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Terre Haute, IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. Westfield is known for its shopping opportunities and as a commercial center for Central Indiana. The town was founded in 1848 by settlers from Connecticut and New York City. The name "Westfield" comes from an old English name for Poultney County, Vermont: Wiston or Weston. The first store in Westfield opened on Main Street in 1848. By 1860, there were five stores in the town. In 1865, the first post office was established in Westfield and remained open until 1959. In 1870, the Western Railroad arrived through Westfield with trackage to Indianapolis and other cities on its system. This gave impetus to development of businesses within the town limits as well as outside of it; such as a flour mill built around 1900 that became one of central Indiana's largest employers during the late 19th century and early 20th century boom period; several banks including First National Bank (later IndyMac) which merged into Wells Fargo & Co.; two movie theaters (the Gary Theatre Company opened in 1951 and the former United States Colored Troops Armory building closed down in 1978); various restaurants (including Hooters restaurant which has been open since 1964), a retail mall (the now defunct Indianapolis Shopping Center), four hospitals- two owned by Purdue University Hospital and two by Methodist Hospital- plus more than 100 small businesses including bookstores, dry goods stores, clothing stores, gasoline stations etc., making Westfield one of central Indiana's most diverse communities during this time frame On July 1st 1954 when new boundaries were drawn up following a referendum held to change portions of Terre Haute city government effective that date many residents within wards 10-14 moving closer to downtown included many members of PMC who lived on Beechwood Avenue near Third Street east side annexation completed on November 1957 In 1960s when Interstate 65 bypassed west end at present day I-465 junction east side annexation complete on February 6th 1966 In 1970s-$1980s developers began interested buying large parcels along I-465 corridor north side annexions complete between 1984-1989

Westfield's history dates back to 1853 when it was founded as a small town by pioneers from eastern Kentucky. Westfield is a city in the U.S. state of Indiana, and the county seat of Westfield Township. The population was 21,711 as of the 2010 census. It is located on the west bank of the Monon River between Indianapolis and Carmel. The first settlements in what is now Westfield date back to 1795, when Englishman Nicholas Noone established a small post on the east bank of the river opposite modern-day Westfield Town Center. In 1812, John Gregg founded nearby Greenwood Village and named it for his brother-in-law, James Gregg (1754–1828), an early settler in this area. In 1836, David Whitcomb organized township 4 north from Indianapolis under the name "Westfield Township." Whitcomb donated land for a courthouse and jail at what is now town center; these structures were completed in 1840. By 1860, there were 10 households and 7 families living in WestFIELDtownship...In 1871 US Census there were 23 dwellings with a population of 506 In 1881 US Census there were 27 dwellings with a population of 1,343 In 1901 US Census there were 31 dwelling with a population of 2,521 On November 3rd 1904 President Theodore Roosevelt visited Westfield while on campaign trail through central Indiana On February 9th 1907 President William Howard Taft visited Westfield while on campaign trail through central Indiana
