Westfield is an American shopping center located in the town of Westfield, Indiana. It consists of a number of stores and restaurants, as well as a large "town square". The square was originally known as the "Pine Street Square" and was first developed in the early 1920s. In 2006, it was renamed to honor former Mayor Tom Menard. The original Westfield Shopping Center was built in 1922 by the Wabash Manufacturing Company. At that time, it consisted of just three stores and served mainly out-of-state shoppers who traveled through Indianapolis on their way to Westfield. However, over time, the mall grew larger and more popular locally. In 1966, Wabash merged with Sears Holdings Corporation to form Sears & Roebuck Incorporated. This left West Field with only two anchors: JCPenney and Kmart. However, both stores failed to make much of an impact on the mall during their respective tenure there before being sold separately in 1989 to Ricketts Familyowned Dillard's Stores Incorporated for $1 million (before being reacquired by Sears Holdings). In 2002, Sears Holdings Corporation announced plans to sell its remaining assets within its company—including West Field—to IKEA for $2 billion cash. Immediately following this announcement, much debate ensued as to whether or not IKEA would actually move into West Field or build a new store there instead. Ultimately, IKEA opted not to open a store in Indianapolis but did open one at nearby Noblesville while also expanding its presence within other malls across America. When announcing its decision not to open a store in Indianapolis after all,—IKEA citing concerns about regulations promulgated since the 1990s which limited development at shopping centers near Interstate65—Sears Holdings Corp.'s CEO Eddie Lampert said that he believed "the [new] regulations will allow us better opportunities outside of downtown Indy." Today's incarnation of WestField began construction on October 6th 2004 when EMC Properties Trust acquired adjoining land from Ricketts family for $211M including debt forgiveness from Dillard's Stores founder Phil Ricketts Sr.. With 2 anchors (JCPenney & Kmart) already operational inside existing buildings & agreements with Urbana Furniture Co.,[4],[5][6][7][8][9] Walmart & Sam's Club were added shortly afterwards - making it one largest enclosed regional Walmart ever! groundbreaking took place on November 3rd 2006 followed by ribbon cutting ceremonies led by then Mayor Tom Menard who called it “one of our proudest moments” #westfieldsqute

In 1836, a group of farmers in Westfield decided to start a new township. They named the township after one of their own, John Westfeldt. The first settler in what is nowWestfield was Isaac Flickinger in 1837. By 1840, the population had grown to thirteen and by 1845 it had reached thirty-six. The town center was established around the old courthouse in 1847. The first school was built that year and the first post office was opened in 1850. In 1860, a sawmill was founded and soon became one of the town's mainstay businesses. By 1870, there were twelve stores and two hotels in Westfield. In 1886, an electric company was organized and began supplying electricity to various businesses within the town limits. That same year saw another major milestone for Westfield – it became a city! In 1912, Wabash Railroad announced plans to build a line from Terre Haute through Westfield into Indiana Territory; this would have madeWestfield an important transportation hub for goods moving between Indiana and Illinois (then part of Michigan). However, despite public opposition from residents living near the railroad tracks, construction proceeded nonetheless until 1916 when Wabash abandonment of its line left Westfield without access to transport services entirely. During World War II, many factories were located within or adjacent to WestFIELD as steel production skyrocketed due to wartime demand; however during the war years many homes were destroyed as bombs hit west field making it difficult for people who lived there not only to survive but also rebuild afterwards. Despite this difficulty some people did manage to rebuild while others didn't - This is why during peacetime you can see so many abandoned homes scattered throughout west field which makes it difficult for anyone looking for them because most likely they've been destroyed by either someone who wants them gone or simply forgot about them!
In 1853, the first store on what is now Westfield opened. The town was founded by three brothers and their father, who started a farm east of the current location. By 1875, there were twenty-six stores in the town. In 1907, the company that would become Pepsi began business in Indianapolis.
