Binoculars were first invented in the early 18th century by a man named Nicholas-Jacques Conte. In 1792, an American scientist, Benjamin Franklin, developed what is now known as the Franklin Telescope. Binoculars were originally used to view things up close and beyond what was possible using other types of instruments. In the 1830s, binoculars started being made more modernized with improved optics and lenses that allowed for a wider range of magnification. By 1840, binoculars had become so popular that they were starting to be used in warfare as well. Westfield was founded in 1824 by members of the Methodist church. The town developed around a small military post, Fort Harrison, which served as a base for Indian raids and also served as a training ground for soldiers during the War of 1812. In 1827, Westfield became the first village in Indiana to be organized under the state's new central government system. In 1830, when Indiana became an American state, Westfield became its capital. The town remained an important cultural and commercial center until the development of Indianapolis in the 1850s.

Westfield, Indiana is a town located in central Indiana. As of the 2010 census, the population was 362. The first town in Westfield Township was laid out in 1827 and it was called "New Town" because investors wanted to distance themselves from what they saw as a corrupt and flat land market in central Indiana. The name has been changed several times since then but the basic story still stands: In 1837, Isaac Newton set up his blacksmith shop on the current site of Westfield High School. He started providing services to local farmers and built up a large clientele. By 1860, New Town had grown so much that it voted to incorporate as a village. On November 3, 1861, Westfield voters approved passing an ordinance establishing itself as an incorporated city with its own fire department and police force. This event is considered to be the beginning of modern day Westfield as we know it today. The city rapidly started expanding and by 1865 had annexed parts of neighboring townships including North Clinton, South Clinton, Eastville, Uniontown and Lawrenceburg before finally reaching its current boundaries which include present-day eastern Brookhaven Township and westwide parts of Lawrenceburg Heights subdivision including those now within Northbrook Township
The city of Westfield was founded in 1837 by the brothers Isaac and Jacob Westfield. The city soon became a major center for trade and commerce, with a population of over 10,000 people. In 1865, the city was renamed Indianapolis after General George Washington's victory in the Battle of Bunker Hill. The city continued to grow rapidly during the early 20th century, becoming one of the largest in Indiana. The 1920s saw an era of industrialization in Indianapolis, as heavy industry moved into the area from out-of-state. During this time, Indianapolis became known as "the most important business capital of America." In 1930, Indianapolis hosted the annual World's Fair which drew large crowds to the fairgrounds. By 1940, however, economic conditions had begun to decline in Indianapolis and other American cities; however, it continued to be one of the fastest-growing cities in America through much of the 1960s and 1970s. In 1973, Mayor Joe Hogsett announced plans to move downtown government operations and services from what were then two separate locations – Government Center and Central Avenue – into one new complex on State Street called "The Square". This plan received opposition from some residents who felt that their neighborhoods would lose importance ifgovernment functions were moved away from their homes. However, Hogsett prevailingly approved the move without any major protest or public opposition. As a result of this decision,[2] central government control over many aspects of life within Indy began slowly but surely moving towards Downtown instead.[3] Since then Downtown has become increasingly vibrant with restaurants and nightlife skyline views overlooking Fifth Avenue all while remaining accessible via state Routes 41/46 (Carnegie Library GardenWalk) as well as First Street (Downtown streets).
