Warsaw has a rich history that includes several significant events that have shaped the town today: its incorporation as a village on December 15, 1848; the construction of its first school building in 1851; the establishment of Polish American Committee in 1934; and most recently, the celebration of Polish Heritage Day on October 6th annually.

Warsaw, Indiana is a small town located in the southern part of DeKalb County, Indiana. It was founded in 1827 and has been the seat of government for Warsaw Township since 1834. The community is located on the banks of the White River and includes a number of historic buildings, including the Warsaw Courthouse, which was built in 1836. The first known settler in Warsaw Township was John Vanecker. He purchased land near present-day Warsaw from Nicholas Czarnecki and erected a log cabin there in 1827. In 1830, Poland's first school was opened in Warsaw by teacher Anna Krakowska. The village also had a post office established that year. By 1840, Warsaw had about twenty residents. In 1835, Polish immigrants Isaac and Mary Jastrzębskie arrived at Miami Lake and organized what would become Warsaw Township. They started to build their home on what is now Main Street near where I-465 intersects today. That same year, they also bought additional land within present-day Warsaw Township from Nicholas Czarnecki. The town's first courthouse was built on Main Street between Sixth and Seventh Streets in 1836 by Judge George Hanks (1809-1876). It served as the court house until it burned down in 1865 while being used as a prison; however, parts were rebuilt and became operational again during the early years of Polish settlement hereabouts. After becoming an incorporated village under state law on December 17th, 1915 (based upon recommendations made by a committee chaired by Mayor Hackett), Poles continued to inhabit Warsaw untiletta 1960 when all citizens were forced to leave due to high population growth rates throughout DeKalb County caused largely by World War II displacement of Poles living eastward into points along I-465 corridor
Warsaw, Indiana was founded on November 10, 1814 by Polish immigrants. The town was named after Warsaw, the capital of Poland at the time. Warsaw became a county seat in 1839 and was incorporated as a village on December 15, 1883.
