Despite this setback, Poles continued to settle throughout most of Northwestern Indiana through the early stages of World War II; however, because Warsaw lay beyond Austrian lines it was spared bombardment during that conflict. In 1945 Russia dissolved its Soviet Union; as a result much Of Eastern Poland remained under communist rule until 1989 when Poland regained its independence. Since then there have been various efforts by local authorities to revive downtown Warsaw as an all-encompassing cultural center for northwestern Indiana; however these efforts have typically failed due to budget restraints and lack of interest from investors or developers alike.

Warsaw, Indiana is a small town in the U.S. state of Indiana. It is located in southwestern Hendricks County on the eastern border of Lake Michigan. The population was 2,512 at the 2010 census. The community was founded in 1854 as Warsaw Township and named after Warsaw, Poland. In 1892, it became part of Terre Haute and renamed again to Warsaw Township/Schedule Cappsville. On November 3, 1927, it merged with neighboring unincorporated communities of Crown Point and Higgins to form the new city of Warsaw which has since grown to be one of the most populous towns in Hendricks County with over 11,000 residents today. In 1907-1908, Polish immigrants from Krakow (the largest city in then-Austria) established a sawmill and gristmill near what is now downtown Warsaw for processing woodchips that had been brought downriver by barges from forests along the Chicago River. The mill village grew gradually but significantly during World War II as many Poles working on military construction or production moved into town as war shortages arose; post-war growth slowed significantly until rapid suburbanization throughout much northwest Indiana following deindustrialization began beginning in the early 1990s contributed to further decline in population density within Warsaw limits over time
Warsaw, Indiana was founded in 1827 as a small town in the Northwest Territory of Indiana. The area now includes Warsaw and portions of Hammond and Linn Counties. In 1827, it was located on the east side of the White River. The first settler in Warsaw was George Harker, who arrived from Kentucky. In 1837, Warsaw became an incorporated village with a population of just over 100 people. It had been organized by a group of farmers who were concerned about the lack of water available to them and the threat that Native Americans posed to their way of life. The community developed around two churches – Trinity Episcopal Church and Presbyterian Church – and around a schoolhouse which served as both a public library and learning center for local children. In 1840, Warsaw became part of Brown County when it was created from parts of Johnson County. But despite this change in location, the community continued to develop its own unique culture and history. It is said that many early settlers were influenced by Quaker Oligarchy leader John Quincy Adams who lived nearby during his time as governor of Ohio (1825-28). Adams’s wife Abigail played an important role in promoting Polish culture in Indianapolis at this time through her publications called "Her Life among us" which she published between 1829-1831
