The Wabash Rifle and Pistol Club was formed in 1876. The club met at the home of a man named Lewis on the south side of Wabash River. In 1881, the club purchased land east of State Street and built a clubhouse which still stands today. In 1895, the club purchased another piece of property west of State Street and erected a new clubhouse which still stands today. In 1907, they added an adjacent pistol range which is now known as “The Range”. From 1913-1945, there was only one president (Mr. Weigel). President Weigel served four terms with no interruption or change in membership until his death in 1945. After President Weigel’s death, Mrs., Mabel Averill took over leadership for three terms before retiring from active membership in 1955-1956 due to health issues; she died six months later at the age of 88 years old. Since 1956 there has been a rotating presidency with current president being Dr., Lonnie Pohlman (1974-1981).
Wabash, Indiana is a town in central Indiana, United States. The population was 1,691 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Evansville–Vincennes Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in what is now Wabash County was George Washington Carver. He and his family arrived from Illinois in 1847 and built a log cabin on the banks of the river near present-day Vincennes. In 1848, he married Mary Addams, also from Illinois. The Carvers raised afamily of twelve children in this small cabin until they moved to larger white farmhouses on their property in 1858. They named their home "Wabash". In 1860, when Wabash County was organized, it included only 5 percent of today's area; it had an population of only 210 people. However, by 1870, when Wabash became its seat – after nearby Bloomington became the county seat – it had grown to 2,871 residents and had added landward for another hundred homes (including many more along the river). In that year also came one important event: Jesse James' raid on Fort Wayne; Wabash repelled his attack with help from General David Coffee and local militia forces. That victory demonstrated not only America's preeminence as a imperialist power but also the resilience of Native American groups against white Settlers encroaching on their traditional domains – characteristics that would be repeated throughout much of North America during this period of rapid racial change When cars were first introduced into north-central Indiana in 1927 (the first such vehicle sale took place in Evansville), Wabashes store owner Cunnelle Babin sold wagons filled with new Ford Model T automobiles to residents just north of town for $5 each As automobiles became more common and more expensive to purchase than horses or carts for transportation within north-central Indiana during this time period (and as other parts westward began doing likewise), wagon transportation within town declined as well Eventually there were no longer any available horse or cart routes between town center and surrounding farms outside Loop Road/Upper White Road which led southwest out towards Warsaw

It was organized as a village on January 1, 1836, and became an incorporated town on November 15, 1881. The population of Wabash grew to over two thousand by 1860, but its growth stopped after the opening of the Erie Canal which cut off much traffic from the region. Despite this setback, WabASH continued to grow rapidly for another decade or so before reaching its peak population of almost four thousand residents during the early part of the 20th century. However, steadily increasing competition from other nearby villages and cities causedWABASH's population to drop below two thousand again by 1920-21; however, it slowly began to rise back up until World War II when it reached its current size (around six thousand). Although today’s city has many of the same features as when it first emerged as a local community—including a downtown area with commercial buildings and a riverfront park—it nonetheless retains some unique characteristics that define it distinctly from other similar communities throughoutIndiana: its large number (over seven hundred) of pioneer businesses; its history as an agricultural center; and its status as one ofAmerica’s most ethnically diverse places.
The first European to visit the area now known as Wabash was French missionary Jacques Marquette in 1679. The area had been visited by Native Americans for centuries before that. The first permanent European settlement in the area was a trading post called Fort Notre Dame de La Salle on the east side of the river in 1765.
