Wabash is an incorporated city in Leavenworth County, Indiana, United States. The population was 15,031 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wabash Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city takes its name from General David Denny's brigade that fought in the Battle of Ziegler's Ford against Native Americans on October 12, 1813. The first settler in what would become Wabash was Nicholas Swartz who arrived in 1814. By 1830 there were over 100 people living in the area around present-day Wabash and New flashancourt (now part of Aliquippa). In 1851 the town site was patented to John Crouch and James Hargrave by Adam Griggs. They named their land "Wabash" after General David Denny's brigade that fought at Ziegler's Ford against Native Americans on October 12th, 1813. The town site grew rapidly with many families settling here during the 1850s and 1860s In 1870, a post office called "New Washington" was established in honor of George Washington (1789-1837) and his family who had owned land near present-day New Flashancourt. However, this post office failed to take off and was discontinued soon after opening because nearly all mail went through Indianapolis instead In 1905, Wabash became one of twenty communities located within the newly created Chicago metropolitan area as a result of efforts by Mayor John F Kennedy to promote suburban growth in Illinois The population declined rapidly during World War II with most residents moving out to join military service or leave for economic reasons Wabash experienced significant growth following World War II as more people moved into town and new housing developments were built . In 1960, the city annexed much of neighboring Aliquippa which gave Wabash a total population of 24,836

Wabash, Indiana is a small town in the U.S. state of Indiana. The population was 5,691 at the 2010 census. Wabash is located in Daviess County and is part of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Statistical Area. In 1838, settlers from Kentucky began to arrive in what is now Wabash County, with some settling on the upper White River. The first post office was established in 1839, and by 1840, there were three stores and nine residents. By 1860, there were twenty-one residents and two churches. In 1871, the first railroad arrived in Wabash County and started serving the town; it was called the Daviess & Wayne Railroad. The first store in Wabash opened its doors on July 1st that year. WabASH FM 107 (now known as "The News 360" ) was also founded that year! The community rapidly grew during this time with businesses opening up around every corner: a bakery opened up near Main Street in 1903; a hardware store soon followed; a grocery store popped up on State Road 11 east of town; a clothing factory opened up along White River north of town; and even an ice cream parlor cropped up!
