Wabash, Indiana is a town in central Indiana, United States. The population was 5,814 at the 2010 census. Wabash is the county seat of Wabash County and the only municipality in the county. It is part of the Indianapolis metropolitan area. The name "Wabash" comes from Fort Wayne's French name for it, Point d'Aire (the point where the river begins to flow). The first Europeans to visit what is now Wabash County were French traders and missionaries who journeyed through this region between 1795 and 1800. Jesuit Father Pierre-Jacques Marquette explored this area in 1802; he named it after Jean-Baptiste de Wabash, one of his converts from Catholicism to Protestantism. In 1807, General Anthony Wayne founded Fort Wayne on an bluff overlooking the confluence of rivers White River and Dearborn River as a military post against Native American forces during the Creek War of 1811-1812. After peace was restored in 1815, Fort Wayne became a center for trade with India and other parts of North America due to its strategic location at the mouth of two large rivers controlled by Indian nations: the Shawnee Nation on one side and Kentucky on the other. In 1865, Wabash Township was organized from portions of Posey Township; Posey Township had been formed in 1847 when Washington Township was divided into two parts following a boundary dispute between that township and Dearborn Township. On March 15, 1907 – three days after Indiana's admission into Confederation as a new country – Wabash Municipal School District No. 2 merged into Greenfield Municipal School District No . 1 which also included most of Vanderburgh Park eastward to Ionia Road; these changes made Greenfield Municipality almost exclusively suburban until 1978 when its boundaries were expanded once again include much of Vanderburgh Park eastward to Weede Avenue making it fully urban again On January 1, 1880 Tamaqua Junction Railway was opened along Cass Street between Jennings Road (now US 27) northbound and Easley Roads southbound providing transportation for agricultural goods coming downriver from Illinois via that state's canal network On October 16th 1886 when school board members met at Elmira Savings Bank building they voted 3–1 not to open their high school because there wasn't enough money available for construction By 1920 there were 4 stores/ hardware stores open including Price Brothers department store on Main Street On November 261920 Charles Auctions held their 6th annual auctioneer convention at Masonic Temple which raised over $4000 for local charities

Wabash, Indiana is a small town in the U.S. state of Indiana that is located on the Wabash River. The town was founded in 1814 by General David Dixon and his forces during the Mexican-American War as part of what is now called Old Northwest Territory. Wabash was named after General James Wabash, who fought in the conflict and later served as governor of Illinois. The population of Wabash reached 4,000 by 1860, but declined to 2,500 by 1920. In 1960, the town merged with neighboring Gary to form a new city government. The merger led to increased development in the area and has helped contribute to Wabash's current growth rate. Wabash's history begins with David Dixon and his troops who were fighting for Mexico against United States forces at the time of its creation. General James Wabasha also fought in this conflict and later became governor of Illinois under President Abraham Lincoln before returning home to serve as an general again during World War II. Afterward, he decided to move his family back toIndiana so they could start anew there following his retirement from service within months of its establishment date back in 1814 which made him one of only a few people everto have that honor at that time along with Daniel Boone himself! Additionally, while today’s namesake David Dixon may not be directly involved with life or history quite like some other figures mentioned earlier (e.g., James Wabasha), it can be said that he did play an important role early on when it came to helping create what would become known as “Old Northwest Territory” which stretched from present day West Lafayette County all the way down into central Indiana including parts of today’s Evansville County! With such fascinating beginnings behind us; it’s no wonder why many people feel such a connection to this tiny little community within these boundaries even though it doesn’t have any physical land within them! After years of hard work by various individuals/ organizations over time; things started changing for locals here when Gary was founded just north-west side of town around1960! Once again due largely because more people were moving into this emerging city than leaving it; more businesses popped up here than anywhere else on our little corner stone!!! This actually led right up until about 2005 or 2006 when we lost our downtown business district but gained some great options( lots off shopping) thanks mostly to Pinnacle Square development nearby!!!!!! And yes folks keep your eyes peeled for those big old white pop cans being hauled away every week(or so) acrosssite!!!!!! It seems like nothing ever stays long around here anymore LOL
