At its peak in the 1920s, Vincennes had a population of over 10,000 people; however, by 1940 it had shrunk to 671 residents. During World War II, the city was home to more than 1,500 military personnel who constructed munitions plants and other production facilities nearby; these factories continue to operate today as businesses called Hulman Manufacturing Company or ATK Corporation (formerly known as American Tool Time). Efforts have been made to revitalize downtown Vincennes since the late 1990s; however progress has been slow due to limited financial resources and local opposition towards changes brought about by successive mayors and economic development corporations funded by outside interests rather than through tax dollars earmarked for local purposes. Today there are few if any reminders that downtown once stood at this address – until recently all but two storefront windows were boarded up – except for restaurant Frontenac’s brick facade which overlooks an alleyway full of abandoned cars parked on either side of Main Street (now Wabash Avenue). This once vibrant commercial core has seen little recent change save for some new construction projects - most notably Sinclair Center – a large office complex completed just north of downtown in 2006 which controversially drew protests from preservationists who contended that it would displace historic homes adjacent to Sinclair Boulevard without recourse from developers who said they could easily replace them with modern equivalents without violating zoning regulations

However, a group of entrepreneurs decided to revive the town and make it one of the most prosperous in central Indiana. They began by building a new courthouse and whorehouse on Main Street. This new development sparked renewed interest in Vincennes and helped it become one of the most thriving towns in central Indiana during the late 1800s and early 1900s. During World War II, Vincennes was again able to prosper thanks to its strategic location within easy reach of both Germany and Japan. The town became an important military base during World War II, housing thousands of troops until 1945. After the war ended, Vincennes experienced a growth period that saw it become one of the most vibrant communities in central Indiana again. Today,Vincennes is known for its picturesque scenery (including some fine examples of Gothic Revival architecture), interesting history, friendly people and delicious food."
