In that year, the territorial government moved from Vincennes to Indianapolis and all civil and criminal proceedings were conducted there until December 4th when they were transferred back to Vincennes under new regulations created by then-Governor John Q. Adams. Vincennes also saw some significant events during its early years including passage of an act providing for religious toleration on May 25th, 1830; passage of an act authorizing organization of a militia on July 24th; creation of a board OF education on October 5th; and approval by Congress on November 6th establishing what is now known as Purdue University at Vincennes. The town experienced some serious growth following these accomplishments however with many homes not being builtfor several decades afterwards due primarily to lack of money or interest from residents. However, with periodic population surges and improvements made to infrastructure over time such as better schools and streetlights (leading eventually to modern day development), progress has been made throughout these years which has led to increased retail presence within walking distance while preserving much original architecture
