In 1814, when Napoleon Bonaparte invaded England as part of his campaign against America, he ordered his army to cross the Kankakee River into Illinois. Many soldiers died trying to crossing; instead of returning homeritisized as they might have been if they had succeeded, most became farmers in Illinois or moved westward into Kentucky and Missouri. When Andrew Jackson was elected president in 1828, he decided that Vincennes should become one of his key stops along his tour across America. He appointed John Atherton as its first mayor and instructed him to start preparations for a smallpox quarantine which would take place in nearby Terre Haute later that year. Atherton successfully convened a meeting on February 10th 1830 - two days after Jackson's inauguration -to discuss ways best to protect citizens from this new disease risk brought about by Napoleon's Invasion! This event is considered one of the earliest successes in American city government! From 1834 until 1860 there was only one other mayor overall: Elijah Howe! However due to political subdivision changes within Indiana at that time (the city charter changed), all but one term expired before leaving office; hence Howe never served an entire term beyond January 1st each year... still an impressive Honorary Mayor record today! Allison Park was built adjacent to downtown Vincennes soon after it opened for business on July 14th 1902 according to City Ordinance No 2268/1902 . It cost $400 per lot with back taxes paid ($11 per acre) by owners who had lived there since before it opened

Frémont explored what is now Indiana Territory and reached Vincennes on November 20th after traveling for nine days with his party from Fort Wayne. On February 14th, 1830, General James K. Polk appointed Frémont Surveyor General for all of Iowa Territory which included parts of Illinois and Indiana Territory. The town of Vincennes began to develop around this time as a result of its proximity to military posts and other industry. By 1838, when both Wabash River (now White River) and Battle Creek Rivers were created within present day Indiana by joining two others – The Red River (now Arkansas) and Black Creek (now LaGrange), Vincennes had become one of several major centers in north centralIndiana serving agriculture, commerce, manufacturing and transportation needs across much of Illinois through land grants given to farmers by Presidents Andrew Johnson and Abraham Lincoln respectively
In 1814, Vincennes was the site of a meeting where the United States acquired land in what is now Indiana. The following year, American General Anthony Wayne and his army invaded Mexico and discovered that the Mexican government had been taking advantage of Native Americans by enslaving them. United States President James K. Polk ordered General Wayne to withdraw his forces and return to America. Vincennes became an important center for trade during the 19th century because it was located on the main route between Eastern and Western America.
