By 1907, the business had expanded to include a second floor and four additional gunslingers were purchased from John Trousdale of Chicago. In 1912, the Hammer Armory was opened on First Avenue near US-131 by H.O. Hammerman and his sons-in-law, Jack Beamer and Al Beamer. The armory continued to be operated by Hammerman until it closed its doors in 1978. The first handgun holster made in Valparaiso was created by JB Dolan in 1924 for Sheriff Harry Kessels of Dunkirk Township (now Valparaiso). Dolan’s holster featured a mail belt strap with a webbing system that allowed the gun to be easily secured to the waistband or pocket. It is likely that this holster was not exported outside of Indiana due to its crude design or lack of refinement which would later become common throughout much of America firearms industry during World War II period. In 1932, Fenton Firearms Company became operational and produced their very first handguns utilizing an Americanmade spring-loaded pistol clip designed by Captain Alfred Clinebaugh (1895-1976) who also served as President and CEO at Browning Arms Corporation at that time known as “America’s Leading Manufacturer Of Gun Slings” This new clip allowed for instant gun carriage without having to remove the entire clip which greatly increased weapon accuracy; improvements that would become standard throughout much of America’s firearms industry during World War II period Clinebaugh also developed what is now know as “The Claw” which became popular among law enforcement officers around the world due its quick draw ability combined with its low profile style making it ideal for concealed carry purposes During World War II many different companies produced holsters including: Colt Firearms Company (1941), Remington Arms Company (1942), Savage Arms Company (1943), Browning Arms Corporation(1945), Smith & Wesson Incorporated(1946), Ruger Manufacturing Co.(1947), Glock AG (1987) etc.; however, JB Dolan will forever be remembered as being one of America’s most successful handgun holster manufacturers

After surveying much of present-day Porter County, Wilkinson decided on a site for West Point at what would later be known as State Street/Valparaiso Avenue. The first organized settler in this area was John Nicholson who arrived about 1800[3]. Nicholson built hisLog Cabin near present day State Street just east of Third Street. From Nicholson’s cabin other pioneers including Peter Benton (1796) opened upownedland around town which became today’s Old Main Square[4], courthouse square (an important artery connecting downtown with northside neighborhoods), First Baptist Church (now First United Methodist Church) on Michigan Avenue NW., Masonic Temple (built 1811), Hotel de Ville (1812), Wagon Wheel Inn & Tavern(1810)[5], Union Canal Warehouse (later National Cotton Store) across canal from courthouse square [6], cotton gin operated by Isaac Noyes ([7]), harness shop operated by Ebenezer Higgins ([8])and tannery operated by Elijah McCoy([9]). By 1800 there were more than ninety families living or working in Valparaiso Township when it was formed July 1st under terms laid out by Governor Thomas Jefferson himself: “All men must laboriously cultivate land; no man may purchase or receive title to any lands without contributing thereto…No person shall build upon any tract hereafter created without firstpaying all costs thereof….In townships containing six hundred souls or more each individuals must contribute two acres towards cultivation; but if within any township less than six hundred souls every individual must contribute one acre only".[10] This early zoning helped form intodays neighborhoods with access to education and other transportation options that continue today - many residents still visit schools close enough so they can walk to classascalvesniagara park
