Multi tools history in St. John, Indiana began with the creation of a local tool company in 1887. The company was owned and operated by George S. Fenton until his death in 1925. In 1921, Fenton's son-in-law, J.M. Laughlin, took over the business and continued it until his death in 1969. In 1978, the company was sold to American Tool Works Inc., which continued to operate it until 1984 when it merged with other agricultural companies to form United States Rubber Company (USR).

The operator would use this implement to make small cuts into trees or other objects for harvesting purposes.[2] In 1875, John Fenton designed and built the first practical electric shock absorber for bicycles,[3] which increased safety when riding during periods of high voltage current flowing through electrical wires close toby. This device was called an "Fenton dynamo" after its designer. By 1893, George Stephenson had designed the locomotive tender "Artemision" with an eight inch (20 cm) diameter shaft fitted with four synchronised revolving saws controlled by hand signals from passengers seated inside the tender

Pope John Paul II dedicated St. John's Basilica in Indianapolis on October 6, 1990. The basilica was built to celebrate the city's rich Catholic history and serve as a central place for religious services and public events. The first Mass took place in the building on December 3, 1890. In 2002, the basilica was renamed after St. Francis of Assisi, one of Catholicism's most renowned saints. The Indiana Legislature designated May 5th as "St. John Day" in honor of the saint in 1996. On that day, businesses and citizens across town participated in an outdoor parade led by Mayor Tom Houser and Governor Mitch Daniels along State Road 82 south from the state capital to the basilica. More than 100 participants enjoyed refreshments at a picnic area near the church before arriving at the basilica for a procession through downtown Indianapolis followed by a service led by Archbishop Charles Chaput officiating at 1:00 p.m.. On July 24, 2006, Pope Benedict XVI dedicated new additions to Sts Peter and Paul Parish in Carmel which included an underground chapel for prayer and worship below ground level with an elevator that takes visitors up to meet Pope Francis who celebrated his first mass there on September 12th 2006 Pope Francis also visited Carmel parish on October 14-16th during his trip around America continent
In 1818, the Shawnee and Potawatomi Indians were forced to leave their homes in what is now St. John Township, Indiana. The area was then owned by the Sycamore Creek Indian Nation. In 1827, the United States bought the land from the Sycamore Creek Indian Nation and moved the population of nearby Fort Wayne to this location. The fort was built on a bluff overlooking the St. Joseph River and it served as a military post until 1831 when it was abandoned due to political instability in that region. In 1830, an act of Congress designated part of what is now St. John Township as a reservation for American Indians called "The Wabash." This reservation included most of present-day St.John Township and parts of today's Putnam County. In 1835, General Scott issued an order commanding all U.S.-owned lands east of US-21 to be patented to white settlers in order to increase agricultural production in that area. The patent applications for this land were filed with the government by white farmers who had purchased it from Native Americans at high prices during the 1830s and 1840s than later did black farmers who had not received such treatment while owning these same lands through treaty negotiations with tribes like the Iroquois Confederacy
