Today, StJohn's influence remains strong; his teachings can be found all overthe world through religious organizations such as Catholicism or Protestantism (although some Catholics still follow The Rule). What makes him truly unique is that despite living hundreds of years ago, he has left behind an entire body of doctrine which continues To this day to shape Christian practice aroundthe world!

On July 4, 1814, St. John's Parish was organized in the town of Terre Haute by the French-Canadian Reverend Augustin Charette and Father Pierre-Jacques Labrecque. The first pastor of St. John's Parish was Father Antoine Bouchard who served from 1815 to 1830. In 1834, a new church was built in Terre Haute by George Stephenson and it became the seat of the parish. In 1840, Rev. Isaac Richardson took charge of the parish and he built a large new church which still stands today on Church Street in the center of town.
