Firearms clothing has a long and varied history in Indiana. In 1835, the first store in St. John, Indiana was established by James W. Ferguson, who sold pistols and ammunition to farmers and hunters in the area. By 1870, there were over 100 stores operating in St. John with a population of over 1,500 people; gunslingers such as Pecos Bill Cody and Buffalo Bill Wilder used these stores to purchase new firearms and accessories (Ferguson 1904). During World War I (1914-1918), firearm manufacturers produced millions of rounds of ammunition for military use throughout America. Many civilians also purchased weapons during this time period; some became known as "machinegunners." One notable civilian proprietor who specialized in making machineguns was Harry Maximoff Sr., who operated an armory located on Second Street near present day State Road 436 east of town (Maximoff 1918). When World War II began on September 2nd 1939, American citizens across the country started purchasing rifles and shotguns online or at gun shows (); many Indianapolis residents acquired their weaponry through local relatives or friends (Fletcher 1999). As violence increased throughout Europe during 1945-1946%, demand for firearms decreased among American citizens; however, arsenals across America continued to produce munitions (Wang 1985). In 1949-1950, several families took up arms against government troops occupying their home state of Missouri; when this armed conflict ended without any bloodshed, these individuals formed the Citizens Armed Forces League Incorporated (), which later changed its name to NRA () after passage of United States Gun Laws Amendment No 51 () on February 14th 1968 (). NRA continues to play an important role in firearm culture within Indiana today by providing support for both personal recreational shooting activities as well as professional marksmanship competitions (). The modern era for firearm clothing begins with The Second Amendment Protection Act Amendments (), which was passed by Congress on May 24th 1968 (). This legislation granted Americans certain rights with regards tofirearm possession (), storage (), transportation ()) []]]. These amendments spawned many subsequent laws designed to protect individual firearm owners (); one such law is Title III OF THE FEDERAL GUN CONTROL AND SAFETY ACT OF 1934 (), which requires all businesses offering retail sales or services involving guns (((Bureau Of Alcohol Tobacco And Drug Abuse 1978)). It should be noted that not all smallarms dealers are required by law to sell handguns (.50 caliber rifles (.22 calibers) are exempt), but nearly all must offer handgun sales ().

St. John, Indiana is a small town in Kosciusko County,Indiana, United States. The population was 1,522 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis metropolitan area. The name comes from the French Saint-John de la Garde, who evangelized in this area and built a church there in 1822. The first settler in St. John was Antoine Jourdain who arrived around 1800 and platted what is now known as Kipling Township on the banks of the White River. He named it for Saint John of Damascus (whose feast day was November 5th), one of his patrons. In 1824, Jacques Marquette reached St. John by way of Fort Wayne and reported finding an Indian village with five hundred people living near present-day Lafayette and other villages on the White River east of present-day Stojansville (now Evansville). Marquette named this new village La Salle after Jean Baptiste L’Hermite, vicomte de la Pointe du Lac and general commanding all French forces against American warriors under General Anthony Wayne during the War of 1812. This site became home to many early settlers including Pierre Lalande (-1849) who platted what is now known as Lafayette Street on land that he had acquired from Jourdain and others in 1825; François Leduc (-1850) ; André Lavigne (+1857) ; Louis-René Latouche (+1858) ; Pierre Dorion (-1900) . Lafayette Street ran from its original terminus at present day Washington Avenue south to where it intersects State Road 441 later renamed Hoosier Boulevard today before turning east towards today's Purdue University campus cornering current US Highways 362/364 north just past New Haven Road (formerly CR 647). In 1836, the Saints moved to St. John's therefrom. In 1838, the first Catholic Church in this area was built. The townspeople were so grateful for the religious services and help that the Saints provided that they renamed their new settlement "St. John's" after them.
