Shelbyville is a small town in Tipton County, Indiana, United States. The population was 4,083 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Evansville metropolitan area. Shelbyville was founded in 1827 and incorporated as a town in 1881. It was named after General Andrew Jackson Shelby. The first post office in Shelbyville was established on December 3, 1827, and remained open until it closed on May 9, 1880. The first settler to arrive in what is now Shelbyville was John Humes who arrived on horseback from Kentucky on July 20, 1830. Other early settlers included David Laird who came around 1840 and James Wigglesworth who arrived around 1850. In 1881, Shelbyville incorporation occurred when the entire Tipton County territory became an unincorporated community under the jurisdiction of Evansville Township which at that time consisted of only a few hundred residents scattered throughout several settlements located along the current alignment of US-131/US-12 (now I-65). At this time also new post offices were established within the township: Indianola (1881), Colfax (1882), and Milan (1883). All three post offices continued to be open until they were discontinued by the late 1920s due to changing postal service regulations which required towns with more than 5,000 residents to establish their own mail delivery services within two weeks of each other – which made EvansVILLE too large for its own independent operation. The last resident to leave town for good was Mrs. Alice Herrington who left for Cleveland, Ohio on October 12th 1924 upon her husband's retirement from government service following twenty years term as Postmaster General of America/Mexico City through his tenure as acting governor during Franklin D Roosevelt's first term as president; he had held that position since 1921 prior to taking office effective January 3rd 1933 while Roosevelt served four terms as president beginning January 20th 1933 until his death November 25th 2004. Since then there have been noresidential occupants remaining within either township limits; both areas have reverted back into rural undeveloped land providing ample opportunity for agricultural production despite little or no investment by either party beyond maintaining public infrastructure such as roads and bridges - something that has not changed since those early days when buttercups lined Main Street & Main Street ran alongside every farmstead & barn (& even still occasionally can be seen today near intersections where narrow 2 lane street becomes 3rd/4th)

Shelbyville is located in Shelby County, Indiana. The population was 9,521 at the 2010 census. The city was founded in 1868 and named for General Andrew Jackson Shelby. It is the county seat of Shelby County. The first settler in what is now Shelbyville was George Hanks who came overland from Kentucky in 1814. He erected a cabin on the banks of the White River in what is now downtown Shelbyville. A post office called Hanksville was established in 1827, and remained operational until 1857. In 1865, General Andrew Jackson Shelby moved his headquarters from Cairo, Illinois to this new town site. From this point forward, it continued to be known as "Shelbyville" although it had no legal connection with that name. In 1830–31,Henry Clay built a small log cabin on the same location which still stands today as part of Main Street near US-31/US-24 exit 20A (now US- 24). This early settler may have been inspired by Henry Knox's original plan for a small town on Greenfield Lake just outside of Cincinnati – though there is no evidence to support this theory beyond circumstantial evidence. Clay also donated land for an academy which would later become Fordham University; he died before its construction could begin! The first courthouse in Shelbyville was built around 1830 by District Judge John Coker and held its first court hearing on October 30th of that year following approval from state legislators Conductor Daniel Boone and James Posey Jr.. Construction began September 8th 1840 but only finished up November 1st due to funding problems . It cost $1,500 to build including furnishings such as benches and desks . The second courthouse was completed December 4th 1840 by District Judge Augustus Kelley with additional space added upstairs which served as both a courtroom and jail ; it cost $2,000 less than the first building! This courthouse burned down on May 11th 1861 during riots following the admission of Ohio into the Union ! On July 15th 1863 Confederate Brigadier General Nathan Bedford Forrest attacked Union forces under Colonel Robert Ewell at Second Battle of Harpers Ferry while these soldiers were waiting at Fort Donelson for their commander , Sherman,, to move southwards towards Chattanooga; much damage resulted including loss of many buildings including both courthouses !! During World War II most all government business took place at State Capitol Building located adjacent across I-75 northbound off exit 309B (exit 307B if coming from I- 75 north) However some important military decisions involving strategic / tactical commands were made at Post Office Building located adjacent across I-75 southbound off exit 309A (exit 307A if coming from I- 75 south) One exception being surrender negotiations between United States Forces Japan and Imperial Japanese Army occurring behind Palace Walls
Shelbyville was founded in 1847 as a small village on the south side of the Danville River. It grew rapidly, and by 1860 had become a thriving community with a population of over 500. In 1871, Shelbyville became one of the original ten towns in the new county of Hendricks. The town remained an important center for trade and commerce until it was annexed by Indianapolis in 1905.
