In 1912, the town's residents voted to rename themselves Seymour after Seymour Hine Sr., an unsuccessful candidate for U.S. Senate from Indiana who served in Congress from 1923-1929 and 1933-1939. Today, Seymour enjoys a diverse economy with businesses including mills, transportation companies, retail stores, restaurants and breweries which serve local residents as well as visitors from surrounding communities such as Terre Haute and LaPorte County. There are also several professional sports teams located in Seymour; these include the La Porte High School football team (the only high school athletic program), the Terre Haute Cotton Millers baseball team (a member of the Great Lakes Athletic Conference), and the Moran Lake Golf Club which offers championship tournaments annually for both men and women

After World War II ended and the economy slowed down, Seymour's population decreased until it reached its current size of 5,816 people in 2010. The history of Seymour goes back even further than that though! George Washington Seymour founded what is now known as Seymour on December 1st 1821 when he came along with his wife Martha to lay claim to land east of Fort Wayne after traveling through Michigan and Ohio on their way home from a religious convention in Philadelphia. At first little more than a farmer’s village - just 11 log homes - one can see evidence of this early settlement today when walking across country roads near town limits. As settlers began moving into this area they erected fences around their property line cattle grazing convenient to them while erecting buildings including a courthouse (1824) which still stands today as one of central Indiana’s most popular tourist attractions despite having been abandoned for years – only accessible by invitation only ever since! The early days were difficult enough but living conditions got even worse when disease took hold throughout much of what would become America during these times: smallpox pandemic starting around 1815 killed an estimated 20%+ of all Americans between 15-49 years old; measles epidemic hitting hard just before Indian Removal started about 1830 killed up to 60%+ American Indians; cholera epidemics hitting hardest during 1840’s & 1850’s caused over 100% mortality among children under 10 years old; both yellow fever (1819) & malaria (1822) reaching new heights causing widespread death rates among humans & animals alike). What followed were centuries rich histories filled with innovation born out Miracle Drug discoveries such as penicillin which cured pneumonia patients fully without any surgery/disease consultation back then (& became available intravenously just 3 decades later!), mass production techniques like steel Casting that gave us skyscrapers & other heavy engineering feats etc., but also countless tragedies such as entire families wiped out by rattlesnake bite while hunting game 2 miles away or women giving birth where Child labor laws not yet implemented resulting in vast numbers children working long hours getting very little pay for extremely dangerous work – fatalities rates up 50%-70% depending on season! From humble beginnings, Seymour has grown into one of centralIndiana's most vibrant communities full OF culture! Seymour, Indiana was founded in 1827 and named for General James Seymour. The community developed around a sawmill and gristmill, which were the first to be built in the area. The mill continued to operate until 1907. In that year, the mill was destroyed by a fire, which also destroyed several other buildings in the community. The town experienced another resurgence following World War II when soldiers arrived in town to battle in Europe. Seymour benefited from this influx of development, as businesses began to open up and new residents moved into the community. However, the population peaked at around 1,500 during the late 1960s and early 1970s due to rising property values and suburbanization within the city limits. By 2000, Seymour had shrunk back to its original size with only a few hundred people residing within its boundaries.
