Seymour, Indiana is a small town located about an hour and a half north of Chicago. It was founded in 1871 by George Seymour, who bought the then unincorporated farmstead on the banks of the White River. The community soon became known for its rifle scopes, which were first made to improve accuracy with rifles. In 1896, the founder's son, George W. Seymour Jr., sold the business to his uncle, built a new factory in nearby Waterville and continued production until 1957. Today, only one relic from those days remains: a two-foot long metalSTATUS sign that still hangs in the old factory complex. The early Rifle Scopes company produced three types of scopes: single-shot target sights (steel mounts), crosshairs and windage turrets (brass mounts). The steel mounts were designed for use with rifles dating back to at least 1862. The crosshairs telescopes were introduced in 1903 and remained popular through World War II; they could be adjusted up or down to six degrees of azimuth each. The turret scopes featured windage adjustment up or down to 10 degrees increments along with elevation adjustments up or down to 20 degrees each (the first turret scope included an eyepiece). Crosshair scopes appeared around 1909 and remained popular into the 1930s; their magnification range was limited but they could be set at various points within 100 yards of impact without affecting sighting ability. By 1914, all Rifle Scopes products had been redesigned as target sights incorporating graduated circles instead of just straight lines on both front and rear sight fields; these targetsights would remain standard equipment across most major firearms manufacturers until replaced by self-adjusting optics in the late 1960s. During World War II, many different designs were submitted for military sniper rifles including QF 6mm rounds fired from .303 British guns using Holstered telescopic sights protected by armoured cases affixed directly overideles protected by high-velocity Elgin lead bullets giving excellent results at very close ranges; however none reached production status becauseof cost overruns attributed largely to America's wartime embargo against Japan

The city experienced some growth during World War II as many residents enlisted in the military and town businesses became involved in war production. After the war ended, most of the growth stopped and today, there are only a few small businesses remaining within the city limits. However, due to its location on both sides of state lines, Seymour has always been an important trade center for both Indiana and Illinois. Today, Seymour is home to a variety of cultural attractions including two libraries (one public and one private), a community college (Indiana State University), several restaurants/bars/cafes/stores, four churches (two Baptist and two Methodist), three schools (three elementary schools with grades PK-12th grade combined into one building calledNorthwest High School; one middle school; one high school) as well as three hospitals: Western General Hospital which serves the surrounding communities; Central Indiana Medical Center which provides healthcare for patients from nearby towns;and Rush University Medical Park which offers care for patients from Chicago or other large cities across America
