Seymour, Indiana is home to a unique history that dates back to the early 1800s. The city was originally named "New Salem" after the discovery of a lead mine in 1814. It soon became known as the "City of Industry" because of its many factories and businesses. In 1827, Seymour was incorporated as a village. In 1881, the United States government acquired land in Seymour for military training purposes. This area would later become known as Soldier's Field, and it remains one of Chicago's most popular tourist destinations today. The city quickly grew into an important center for manufacturing and trade. By 1907, Seymour had over 100 businesses and 1,500 residents. During World War I, Seymour contributed greatly to the war effort by producing munitions and other military equipment. In 1919, Mayor John Vandemar adopted a resolution proclaiming September 11th as "National Independence Day". The following year, he founded the City Museum which still operates today. In 1922, Mayor Winton Ladd designated November 8th as "Seymour History Day". Today, this day is celebrated both locally and nationally with events such as fireworks contests and street festivals.

Seymour, Indiana is an unincorporated community in Shawnee County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. It was located just east of present-day Seymour on a small track connecting two logging roads. The post office was renamed to its current name in 1978 after local resident Seymour H. Capps.[2] In 1907, Seymour had a school and a church;[3] by 1920 there were also a few shops and a telephone line. In 1930, the population had risen to over 1,000 people; by 1970 it numbered only 350 people living within the municipal limits of town square. By 2000, there were only twenty-four residents remaining inside the municipal boundaries of town square;[4] by 2010 that number had fallen to six people living within the limits of town square,[5] all of whom are employed within nearby businesses or services that are integral to their daily lives: police officer (since 2008), fire chief (since 2009), ambulance service provider (since 2014), water main contractor ( since 2016), and health care provider ( since 2018).

One such individual was James Hirst, who moved from Vermont in 1819 to start a farm near present-day Seymourville. After several years of hard work, Hirst discovered rich soil and timber resources which he soon used to begin building his home and other structures in what is now Seymour Township. Over time, other entrepreneurs followed suit and founded businesses throughout the Village of Hollywood including Wagon Wheel Clothing Store (1884), J & S Grain Mill (1898), Mr & Mrs Snyder’s grocery store (1920), First National Bank (1929), American Glass Company (1930), Goodyear Tire & Rubber Corporation (1935) and more! These businesses served not only Seymour but also surrounding villages for over 100 years! This economic stability helped contribute to the growth of this community which today offers plenty of opportunities for residents to enjoy their personal pursuits while enjoying all that Hollywood has to offer!
Seymour, Indiana was founded in 1821 by Colonel John Seymour. The town was named after General James Wilkinson who fought at the Battle of Fallen Timbers in 1815. The population of Seymour grew to over 100 people by 1830. In 1835, the town was granted a charter from the state of Indiana and became an incorporated city. In 1854, Seymour became a county seat and remained so until 1907 when it reverted back to its original name.
