Seymour is a small town in Butler County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,977 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Terre Haute Metropolitan Statistical Area. On November 4, 1829, Seymour was founded by Isaac Seymour and his wife Anna and their children John and Susannah. The first post office in Seymour was established on December 5, 1829. The first store in town was opened by Wm. Henson on March 4, 1830. In 1836 the town had a population of 350 residents and an agricultural census showed that the town had one hundredlivestock, thirty-one pigs, twenty-four hogs, three dairy cows and two sons of Mr. Henson were farmers with seventy-eight acres (27 hectares) of land holdings; they raised corn, hay and beans for their family's market needs before selling their produce to local buyers or delivering it to other towns in Butler County. In 1840 the population increased to 500 residents when Revs Atherton and Emerson from nearby Terre Haute came to preach at nearby Lafayette College; they donated $1 per month for six months towards building a schoolhouse which would be used as a church for the community; this set off an evangelical revival which led to new farmland being developed in addition to raising livestock including five horses (of which only one survived), four cows and four calves being born during that time period according as well as some houses being built along side churches soon afterenerally located around what is now Seymour High School campus area

Seymour was founded in 1824 by Nicholas Seymour and his family as an encampment for settlers on the banks of the Raccoon River. The village became a post office in 1827, and a town in 1836. It was named for General George W. Seymour, who fought against Mexican forces during the Mexican–American War. In 1907, Seymour became part ofthe newly formed city of Hammondsville when that city was created from parts of six other towns in central Indiana by an act of Congress. Seymour is located at (41-14-7). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.9 square miles (2 km²), all land. As of 2010, there were 1,693 people living in Seymour Township: 553 male and 479 female residents age 25 or over; 551 non-Hispanic White residents age 15 or over; and 316 Black residents age 15 or over
Seymour, Indiana was founded in 1854 by John Seymour. The town was named for General George Washington Seymour and the surrounding land became part of the Jennings County Reservation. In 1887, the Town of Seymour was organized as a village. On December 1, 1907, Village of Seymour merged with neighboring towns of Newburgh and Gary to form the City of Seymour. On January 1, 1912, City of Seymour merged with nearby town of Clinton to form the Town of Clintonville. On November 3, 1918, the Town ofClintonville merged with neighboring town of Carmel to form the Borough of Carmel. The Borough ceased to exist on January 1, 1971 when it was dissolved into the Township thereof.
