The first post office in Seymour was established on that date. The town began to grow rapidly due to the arrival of settlers and entrepreneurs. By 1875, Seymour had a population of over 200 people. In 1916, the city fathers decided to annex neighboring towns, which would increase its population by 471 individuals. In 1951, the city fathers again voted to annex neighboring towns, this time increasing its population by 1,500 individuals. It is located on the eastern side of the Wabash River and is bordered by Hendricks County to the south and east, Putnam County to the north and west, and Warren County to the northwest. The population was 912 at the 2010 census. Seymour is home to Seymour High School which is a public school system with over 1,200 students from grades 9-12. The first settler in Seymour was John Smith who arrived in 1795. Other early settlers were David Ritchie, James O'Brien, Peter Haggerty, Samuel Dormer, Michael Gallagher and Daniel McCarthy. In 1827, Isaac Dunham donated land for a village named Seymour on what is now State Road 2 near present-day Hampton Roads Naval Base. The Village of Seymour was incorporated as a city in 1889 pursuant to an act of the Indiana General Assembly entitled "An Act To Make An Amendment To The City Charter Of The City Of Seymour." On July 6th 1920 Mayor Aiken burned down his office (now known as Old Town Hall) after refusing service during prohibition because he didn't want liquor licenses for his building Results showed that mayor Harry Fenton actually had won re-election with only 8% more votes than challenger George Cagle but he resigned instead due to campaign finance violations

Seymour, Indiana is a small town in southern Indiana. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Decatur, Indiana Metropolitan Statistical Area. Seymour was platted in 1853 and named after Seymour County, Maryland. The first settlers were Methodist ministers who came from North Carolina in the 1830s looking for a new home. They found what they were looking for when they founded the town of Seymour on December 2, 1853. The first post office was opened in 1854 and it continued to serve as such until 1956. At that time it became an independent municipality under the name of Seymour-Decatur. In 1907, citizens of neighboring towns merged with Seymour to form the Decatur-Seymour Combined Statistical Area (CSA). The combined population reached 2,047 by 2000 and has since grown to 3,000 residents today. Today's economy is based on agriculture and manufacturing which have been strong drivers of growth over the years. Agriculture includes crops such as corn, soybeans, peas, beans and cotton; animal husbandry includes poultry operations andlivestock farming; while manufacturing produces goods such as automobiles and furniture. The community also offers a variety of services including health care and education through its public schools system as well as a number of businesses providing local services like plumbing and internet access
The Seymour community was founded in 1837. The first post office was established in the town in 1838. The first settler in Seymour was Samuel Wurts, who arrived in 1839. A school and a church were built here in 1840. In 1851, the town had a population of seventy-four and a store. A mill was built here in 1862 and an academy followed in 1863. The town changed its name to Seymour during World War I because of the influx of soldiers from nearby Indiana and other states. In 1919, the Seymour School District was created and the town became part of it. In 1937, the Post Office closed and all businesses closed except for one that continued to serve residents until 1980 when it too closed due to lack of customers.
