Seymour, Indiana is a small town in the central part of the U.S., located on the right bank of the White River. It was founded in 1837 by George Seymour and his wife, Julia Crouch, as a log cabin community. In 1848, Seymour became the county seat of Crawford County and it remained so until 1956 when it was moved to Indianapolis. The population of Seymour in 2010 was 3,083. The Lewis & Clark Expedition passed through Seymour on their way to Pendleton Heights in October 1805 and reports that "the Indians were very numerous", but no one knows for sure if this is true or not because there are no records from that time period. One thing is for sure though; during those days, Indian land only extended up to about two miles from either side of the river. There must have been some early settlers who lived near where Seymour now stands because by 1850, there were at least six buildings in use within a half mile of where townsquare now stands! George Seymour started farming around 1840 and soon had several hundred acres working – enough to support himself and his family. By 1870, he had also built a large log cabin known as “The Old Home” which still stands today (along with many other structures) on what would become known as Main Street in Seymour. When he died in 1900, he had been married to Julia for over 50 years! In 1951, when Crawford County merged into Marion County, Seymour became part of that new county too. However, despite being part of Marion County for more than 60 years (!), The Old Home still remains standing – although it has been greatly renovated since then! Today’s town square was platted circa 1860 when George Seymour’s daughter Julia planted an American Elm tree there as part of her husband’s memory Lane Tree Planting project (see website). It is currently home to four businesses: An antique store/gallery called “Old Home Antiques” (which opened in 1965), a convenience store/gas station called MidwayUSA (opened 1969), an internet cafe/bar called “Crawford Coffee House” (open 2006) and finally a hotel called “The Bluegrass Inn & Suites” (opened 2003).

Seymour is a small town in Wayne County, Indiana, United States. The population was 5,564 at the 2010 census. Seymour was founded in 1836 by John Seymour and his wife Susannah. It was named after Commodore George Seymour of the United States Navy who landed there on July 4th, 1836 during the American Civil War. Commodore Seymour's Landing Site is located near present-day Seymour. In 1850, the village had a total population of 332 people and it consisted of just 10 houses. In 1860, however, it had a population of 1,344 residents and it included 19 churches as well as a school. By 1870, the population had grown to 2,827 people and it included 38 churches as well as a post office. In 1907–08 when the state of Indiana merged with Michigan Territory to form Indiana Statehood, Seymour became part of that state’s Kossuth Township (later renamed East Gosse Township). However due to dwindling populations throughout most of eastern Michigan after World War II numerous businesses closed or were moved out because they could not compete with larger towns such as Detroit or Gary which already had multiple schools and other services available for their citizens. The township established its first ambulance service in 1948 which later evolved into Today’s Seymour Ambulance Service Inc., Incorporated (TASISI). TASISI currently provides EMS services to more than 4500 patients per year across all 11 ambulatory care locations within our network including urgent care clinics and family medicine practices in addition to basic critical care services for stroke patients and ALS patients/patients with dementia or cognitive impairment (the majority being transported via RuralLink flights from Indianapolis)..
