In 1826, Major John Fenton patented his invention for use with cannons, which he called the “Fenton Rifle Bullet”. The development of this bullet allowed for improved accuracy and performance for artillerymen across the country. By 1830, Fenton had developed another new type of projectile called an “hyperboloid” projectile which was even more powerful than his previous projectiles. With these new projectiles, military forces could defeat cannonballs at much greater distances than ever before. By 1840, hyperboloids were being used by all branches of the American military as well as foreign armies in combat. In 1847, Colonel George Armstrong invented what is now known as a fragmentation grenade which consisted of a small round filled with explosives that went off upon impact with something such as a human body or building

Seymour is a village in Hardin County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,844 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Terre Haute Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1827 by Major John Seymour and Captain James Dearborn on land that now forms the eastern edge of Seymour Township. In 1832, they built a gristmill on the east side of the Black River and named it after themselves. The first post office was established in 1834. In 1849, major Seymour donated land to create what is today Seymour Township and laid out its basic boundaries. He also donated $5 for every settler to purchase an acre of land from state authorities for home cultivation. By 1860, there were over 150 residents in Seymour Township and about 20 businesses operated in town – including three sawmills (the first two being built by Major Seymour himself). In 1865, when Hardin County was created from part of Butler County, Seymour became one of its oldest towns with a population of 521 people according to the US Census Bureau's "History Of The Location Of Indianapolis". It had two stores and five plank buildings thatched with straw while other small communities developed around it such as Lawrenceburg (now Lawrenceburg Heights) farther west on White River Road and Northville northeast off State Road 44 near present-day Terre Haute International Airport. However due to wartime restrictions on railroad travel within Indiana during World War II many residents left their homes for fear they would be bombed if their area entered into warring countries; however most moved back into town once hostilities ended so as not to forfeit their property or lose access to education or social services which were available outside their community although some did stay away through choice rather than forced relocation. Butchery business closed down because demand decreased following world war II but new businesses such as furniture stores began opening up throughout Indiana due to postwar boom years; which eventually led to more people moving back into town along with increased development opportunities making it an increasingly popular destination for retirees living elsewhere in the Hoosier State during this time period until today when there are relatively few active businesses remaining compareable with decades past albeit still thriving given current demographic trends
