John Marshall and his family after they abandoned Fort Dearborn on the Ohio River for this site. In 1852, it became part of Vincennes Township. In 1868, it became a separate municipality and was renamed Seymour after its founder. Seymour is located at (39.295086, -87.844902). According to the 2010 census, Seymour has a total area of , of which is land and (1%) is water. As of the census of 2000, there were 1,524 people, 524 households, and 367 families residing in the town. The population density was 383 people per square mile (146/km²). There were 653 housing units at an average density of 214 per square mile (85/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 97% white; 0% black or African American; 0% Native American; 0% Asian; 0% from other races; and 2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3% of the population

Seymour, Indiana is a small town in Jablon County, Indiana. The population was 1,871 at the 2010 census. Seymour was founded in 1814 by James Seymour and his wife Nancy. It is named for Seymour's brother-in-law, Samuel Prentice. The first post office in Seymour was established on March 17, 1815. In 1827, a school was built here and the first teacher taught classes from May to September. A stagecoach stop was located here in 1853 and local farmers would buy tickets to ride to Chicago on the trip back. On November 3, 1865, President Lincoln delivered a speech from the schoolhouse steps which served as an inspiration for many of America's leading industries during that era including steel production in Gary and other plants nearby. Seymour has been home to two churches; First Baptist Church (founded in 1898) and Liberty Methodist Episcopal Church (founded 1870). The original church building burned down in 1908 but a new structure was completed within eight months and dedicated on October 15th of that year with Rev John Siskind officiating. In 1909 both churches were merged into one congregation known as First Presbyterian Church of Seymour which still exists today despite being rebuilt several times over the years due to fire damage and other issues. From 1916-1966 the town had its own radio station WYEP which aired programming from Philadelphia each Saturday morning until it went off the air due to financial problems some years later; however WYEP is still remembered locally for playing classic rock music on their pre-digital days as well as hosting live events like tractor Pulls/Fairs during summertime according to some locals who grew up hearing about these events through family stories Generations later they can still see video ads promoting those activities running across highway 50 just outside of town center near where IGA now stands
