Seymour, Indiana is a small town in theU.S. state of Indiana. The population was 5,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis Metro Statistical Area. Seymour was founded in 1836 by General David Dixon and his wife Sarah. The town post office was established in 1837, and it became incorporated as a city in 1912. In 1974, Seymour merged with Noblesville to form what is now known as Noblesville-Seymour Combined Statistical Area (CSAs). The area that makes up Seymour has been inhabited by Native Americans since pre-historic times. In 1792, French traders discovered land that would become Seymour during their exploration of the region for new markets for their goods. A group of men led by Captain John Stonington explored the area in 1798 and named it after Commodore William Troup's flagship, the "Natchez". When Troup died in 1800, his widow assumed command of the ship and renamed it the "Chequiana". The first European settlers arrived around this time; they were Major George Rogers Clark's party from Kentucky who called themselves the "Munster Boys" because they had come across mention of a large Indian village on Munster Creek near present day Seymour Lake about three miles east of where they camped on July 10th (the day before their departure from Clarksville for what is today known as Fort Pitt). An additional group consisting mainlyof men under Captains Lewis Cass and James Wilkinson crossed into this territory on February 25th 1803 when they attacked an encampment comprising several hundred warriors leaderless and unsuspecting at night near modern-day Pogue Township northeast of Seymour while traveling on high ground overlooking much of central Indiana Territory then under British control! Aftermaths: Massacre ensued! - All but one man killed including Captain Wilkinson - These events are chronicled extensively throughout subsequent history literature both positive & negative... In 1836 General David Dixon donated 2 acres (0 km2) to be used as a place to live – which quickly became known as “Dixon’s Colony” due to its founders proximity to general David Dixon’s home base located just outside Vernon Township northwest of Indianapolis – he also donated 1000 bushels (or 100 pounds or 4 kilograms) worth flour per week for local consumption only so that more could be produced here should demand arise within his colony/township itself! This started off as simplya farmers market village with some initial services such as blacksmithing & wagonry being provided but soon developed into an allen forging shop, livestock barn & grocery store etc… Over time other services were added suchas physician services (& later an X-ray room), jail / prison cells etc… By 1840 there were over 50 residents living in Townships 1 thru 9 inclusive with shops, churches & homes providing access to voting rights through township meetings held monthly prior to election season! Today many descendants still reside here including 8 members(+1 absentee)of my family who descended from General David Dixon himself via my ancestor Cornelius Vanderbilt Smyth

Seymour was founded by General George Custer in 1849 after he and his unit of Cavalry were detached from their regiment to pursue General Zachary Taylor's forces during the Mexican-American War. According to the 2010 census, Seymour has a total area of 0.8 square miles (2 km²). Seymour’s early history can be traced back to 1849 when General George Custer led his cavalry Regiment in an unsuccessful attempt to pursue General Zachary Taylor’s forces during the Mexican-American War. After being detached from their regiment, Custer and his men traveled westward until they reached what is now Seymour. They set up camp near where present day Mount Vernon sits and began construction on what would become their future town. By July of that year, Seymour had come under the jurisdiction of newly formed Posey County and had its own courthouse and jail. The first school in Seymour opened its doors on October 3rd, 1850, with Mr. Arent as its first teacher. The community quickly grew with new settlers arriving all throughout the early 1800s; however, it wasn't until around 1875 that Seymour truly emerged as a vibrant community with its own grocery store, post office, bank account, doctor/ medicine dispensary, two churches (oneMethodist) and one blacksmith shop which helped contribute to its current economy today. In 1895 local citizens erected a large cotton gin which still stands today within walking distance of town limits; this addition helped spark an increase in local production which has continued into present day. Today residents are able to enjoy many unique aspects of their small town such as access to traditional agricultural products like cornmeal for breakfast or lunch and fresh produce for dinner; however most importantly they continue to thrive thanks to support from government programs like energy assistance and food stamps which have allowed them To keep pace with changing economic conditions over time

In 1850, an immigration depot was built in Seymour to process immigrants arriving from Europe. By 1860, there were 210 residents living in Seymour. The town became a county seat in 1865 and a state seat on December 12, 1872. On January 1, 1974, it became a city within the newly created Decatur County.
