In 1865, John Hickey settled here with his family from Kentucky and added to the community name; he became sheriff of White County in 1866 after being elected by the citizens of that area. A post office called "Ender" was established near present-day Griggs Street and Old National Road in 1870, but no mail ever arrived there because the railroad never reached that area. In 1872, Chauncey Ladd opened a store here on Main Street and began selling groceries to farmers around town; this store remains open to this day as part of City Market Incorporated (CMI). In 1902, scribes Jotham Browne and David Sibley created one of America's first commercial donexography services while living at 1116 N 4th St., Indianapolis; their business continued until 1923 when they relocated to Overton Park due to city regulations against businesses with more than four employees inside its limits without a license from the city government! That same year saw also another important event for Schererville when banker James Dillard came into town from Kokomo with his family – he started distributing cash checks made out payable to local banks all over Indiana using horse drawn wagons! This new start helped revive downtown development which had been stalled since before Prohibition ended eighteen years earlier!
