Schererville is a small town in Butler County, Indiana, United States. The population was 2,415 at the 2010 census. It lies along the north side of the Mayflower River and is south of the city of Butler. Schererville was platted on November 1, 1836, by Nicholas Scherer. The name is derived from German Scharrerei meaning "to scatter." The first post office in Schererville was established in 1837. A printing press was built here in 1840 and operated until 1861; it still stands today as a museum piece. In 1847, the town had two stores and one blacksmith shop; these were soon replaced by five gristmills, three sawmills, four cotton ginners, and one harness factory. By 1870, there were thirteen businesses with a combined payroll of $11,000. In that year also came the installation of a street Railway (the first such thing in this area) which connected downtown with rural areas to the east and west. In 1907 Schererville became an incorporated village; it continued to grow rapidly during this time with many new businesses being added including several banks (First National Bank & Trust Company being founded here), two factories (one belonging to chewing gum manufacturer Jell-O and another to Studebaker), two churches (Staatskirche Evangelische Kirche und Friedhofscheckhaus), an ice cream parlor (Frosty's Frozenreams), three lumberyards/sawmills/factory(s) (Allis Chilton & Sons Company being founded here), six schools—three private schools and five public schools—a post office annexe (the first such thing in this area) as well as numerous other commercial establishments not listed here altogether; its population reached 3,500 by 1910! At present day much of this old infrastructure remains behind but has been updated or renovated into new buildings including a library building completed in 2009 which houses both its original collection of books dating back to 1836 as well as additional archives dating back even further! On July 20th 1914 a tornado touched down just across town from where we stand today destroying most everything within 5 miles radius! The damage done ranged from roofs off homes to complete destruction inside local churches! It is estimated that over 100 people were killed outright or seriously injured within 5 miles radius from where we sit today!!!

Schererville is a small town in Putnam County, Indiana, United States. The population was 909 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Terre Haute, Indiana Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Schererville was John Scherer and his family who arrived in 1824. In 1827, Isaac Gentry settled in the town and founded the Gentry Oil Refining Company. The company manufactured gasoline and other oil products until it merged with Anaconda Copper pipe line in 1901 to form American Pipe Line Corporation. In 1929, Schererville incorporated as a village under the name of "Schererville". The village government disappeared following World War II when all villages were disbanded by state law due to lack of economic development or political stability. In 1951, Schererville became one of thirteen townships within Putnam County that were merged into the new city of Terre Haute. As a result of this merger, most residents (including those living in Schererville) moved out or left for Terre Haute while the remaining residents continued to use their original names and local government functions until 1954 when they were re-established as township citizens within Terre Haute proper with full power to govern themselves without interference from the city officials.

By 1865, the mill had been destroyed by fire, but Schererville quickly rebuilt it using local materials and engines. The city's first mayor was Jacob Hutton. In 1898, Schererville annexed neighboring town of Jenssenburg to get more growth around its core. In 1984, scherrieville merged with nearby townships of Greenfield and Vernon to become one large city with a population of over 100,000 people.
