The burning destroyed many homes and businesses including those of local farmer John Gentry who lost his home after being caught inside. After the war ended in 1865 (end result: most goods taken back by Confederate forces were destroyed), most businesses returned to business as usual except for some new buildings erected close by such as Gentry's Store which still stands today across from US-17 freeway southbound exit 289B (Gentry Rd) off I-465 just past milepost 281/SR 26).
