Portage is a small town in central Indiana, United States. The population was 3,681 at the 2010 census. It lies on the Wabash River, about 20 miles south of Indianapolis and 50 miles north of Chicago. The first Europeans to visit what is now Portage were French traders who traveled through the area in 1765. In 1848, General Harrison Purchase of Illinois founded a new state called Michigan Territory with land extending from the Ohio River to its mouth on Lake Michigan. In 1853, part of this territory was divided as Northwest Indiana became part of the newly created portage country comprising much of northwestern Indiana including Portage Territory. When Indiana became a state in 1864, it added all of northwestIndiana to its borders and included Portage Territory within that newly formed state. A post office was established at Portage by Territorial Governor John Kinzie on February 14, 1865, and mail service began between Indianapolis and Portage on April 1st. In 1886, an act was passed providing for township formation within the new portage country if citizens did not want their votes apportioned based upon their location within municipalities which then formed. On March 10th of that year, Township Formers Meeting convened at Ft Wayne to approve formulating boundaries for each township which would be effective immediately following incorporation into the municipality due to lack of qualified officers or members available to carry out the process at that time. On May 15th both villages (Ft Wayne and Northport) incorporated into City Of Northport as Village formers met again but without any action being taken formalizing boundaries between those two communities until November 11th when an ordinance creating Village Of Northport was passed by Township Formers Meeting #2 resulting in Village Of Northport occupying east side of Wabash River between roads leading thereto from east side streets running northeasterly into Township limits while Ft Wayne continued operations as an unincorporated village subject only to Township jurisdiction along with rights-of-way necessary for public transportation

It featured an automatic firing system that operated like a handgun but couldfire multiple rounds per minute with 12-gauge ammunition. BARs remained in production until 1937. Airguns began becoming more popular in the 1920s when they were developed into personal weapons such as shotguns and pistols. Airguns became widely available after World War I when regulations banning handguns expired in most countries. However, they remained less common than firearms overall due to their smaller size and lack of firepower compared to rifles or shotguns

These guns were called “steam pistols” because they were used to fire artillery shells. In 1892, Edwin Colt introduced the first revolver using an airgun as its mechanism. This gun was called the Colt-Arms Air Pistol.
Portage, Indiana is a small town located in western Cook County, Indiana. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in what is now Portage was Nicholas and his family who moved from Maryland in 1827. Nicholas had land grants from the government and began to develop these holdings in 1829. By 1840, he had a store and two homes. In 1846, Isaac Knechtel purchased land southwest of present-day Portage from Nicholas for $1,000 cash with no interest or consideration given as to future development potential on the property. Knechtel soon developed this parcel into what became known as "Knechtel's Corners". He built a series of log buildings that still stand today including the Custom House (1849), Bank (1850), Post Office (1851), and Hotel (1852). A post office was established at Portage in 1854, and by 1861 it had become an important stop on stagecoach routes between Indianapolis and Chicago. The town prospered through its role as a transportation hub until it was destroyed by fire in 1865 while under construction near the intersection of State Road 705 and State Road 822. The site of today's First National Bank remains largely unaltered since that time with only the addition of a few walls around most of its building stock having been replaced over time due to vandalism or weathering alone! In 1870, residents voted to incorporate as a village but this referendum failed when just 30% of those voting took part due to lack of enthusiasm among some core community members about joining such an entity! Post office activity waned following World War II until finally being stopped completely by Congress following pressure from other parts of America where mail service continued uninterrupted despite soldiers fighting overseas during that war! The last commercial shipment arrived here on December 5th 1944 - one week before Japanese forces invaded Pearl Harbor!!! Development resumed slowly after that point culminating with the opening up of Albertson's grocery store on Main Street in 1965 which helped revive downtown business activity once again! In recent years however; much redevelopment has taken place within reach thanks to investment by local businesses
