Plainfield is a small town in the U.S. state of Indiana, situated on the east bank of the Muncie River. The population was 7,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis Metro Area and is served by The Plainfield School District. Plainfield was founded in 1824 as an unincorporated community on what is now State Road 371 north of present-day downtown Indianapolis. Charles Waddell, a self-taught farmer, offered to donate land to make way for a courthouse and jail; the first building was built in 1828. The name "Plainfield" first appeared on deeds issued in 1829 and 1830. In 1836, when it became part of the newly formed county of Hendricks, Plainfield became one of its largest towns with a population over 1,000 people; it declined during the 1840s because of tuberculosis epidemics that killed many residents and destroyed much agricultural production. In 1850, however, with growth (and annexation) coming from nearby Delaware Township and other nearby settlements, Plainfield began to prosper again: its population reached 2,500 by 1860 and 3,500 by 1870—a level not seen again until after World War II when suburban sprawl caused decline within town limits). A post office opened in 1827; it closed Sept 15th 1946 due to lack of mail volume; it reopened Jan 6th 1947 under new management but ended operations Dec 22nd 1949 due to budget cuts brought about by war concerns (plainfield had been militarily dependent on Fort Harrison since 1795). The last store manager before closure was Mrs Lillian Weisbrod who managed our store from 1947-1949 along with her husband John Weisbrod through their son Michael Weisbrod until their death back in 1984 also known as Johnny Weisbrod Sr.). Our store closed down because we could no longer compete against online/mail order/phone orders which were becoming more prevalent at that time especially thanks to deregulation etc... So much has changed since then that I feel like I am not even old enough to know all about it! However here are some photos from my childhood years... Here's your history lesson: The first school open in Plainville was Indianni Elementary School which opened Aug 9th 1830 & operated until Feb 25th 1931... After Indianni Elementary closed there were two schools operated sidebyside called Monson Academy & Whitebotham School which shared space until Mar 21st 1938 when Monrovia Academy replaced Whitebotham School... After Monson Academy closed there were only 5 students left at Indianni Elementary so A&M High School took over which operates today as Monroe Central High School! Eaton Middleschool opened Oct 14th 1954 & lasted until May 20th 1957 before closing due to enrollment issues mainly because most kids living outsideof town didn't want 4rd grade education! Now Eaton Jr./Sr high school operates instead Thanks for keeping us alive thru thick & thin!!

It is part of the Terre Haute, IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what is now Plainfield was James Prentice in 1785. He and his family were among the first white people to cross over into this area from Illinois. Plainfield reached its peak as a commercial center during World War I with its production of munitions and other materials for military use. After the war, however, it declined as a manufacturing town due to competition from larger towns such as Terre Haute and Evansville. However, local businesses have kept alive agriculture and related industries since then, contributing to Plainfield's current role as an agricultural community with some light industry sectors also present. The most important event that occurred in Plainfield's history was when President Abraham Lincoln delivered his Gettysburg Address there on November 4th 1863; later that year he became one of only two Ulysses S Grant presidents (the other being Woodrow Wilson). In addition to hosting many events during Grant's presidency (such as inaugurations or balls), Plainsboro also played host to several important trials during his term including those of William Hutton and Charles Sumner which led directly to their impeachment hearings later that year; these events are still considered significant milestones in American History by many residents today!
